DIY Console Table Reveal

Ooooo, it’s time for me to reveal our top secret project that I mentioned on Monday.  (Even though my SEO friendly title already ruined it).

Today Ike and I would like to introduce you to our pretty new console table.

I’ll share the tutorial with you next week but we made the top out of 1x10’s that we beat with a hammer, crow bar, screw driver, etc to give it that reclaimed wood look. The legs are made from copper grounding rods.  Copper is a hip metal these days.  Hipsters.  The total cost was ~$40.

I was originally inspired by some hairpin leg tables that I had seen floating around.  I wasn’t a fan of the $300+ price tags.  I then looked into the hairpin legs which were still $20 a piece. Four $20 legs plus wood for the top equals too much dinero.  That’s when I conspired with my partner in crime and we saw the copper grounding rod while wandering Lowe’s.  It was a major experiment on our part because we weren’t even sure we could get something to like this to stand.  Somehow we did.  And we’re in love.  Both of us.  Nate is less into furniture PDA than I am.  But trust me, he’s in furniture love.

It’s like the table was made for this spot.  Oh wait, it was. Never mind.

Our farmhouse table now has a mini-friend.  (Don’t mind the tv in the mirror.  I do like how the owl appears to be waving though.  It’s the little things in life.)

Are you digging copper these days?  What about that brassy/old lady decorating scheme I have going on?  Is a console table on your DIY list?  Who’s excited for the tutorial?

  3. Wowsa, I love this! The legs are interesting, but lovely, but that top is fabolous, can't wait for the tutorial, I have been looking for an entry table, but it's an ackward spot, and everything is just too big. Something like this would be PERFECT.

  4. omg i am in furniture love too...through the computer. Which might be slightly more awkward than the PDA in real life thing. I may need to copy this at some point. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

  5. Love it! All you need now are some Converse, PBR, and thick framed glassses. I have to say that I am concerned that copper thieves are going to break into your house to steal the copper legs. Copper thievery is an epidemic here. Be on the lookout.

    1. Thankfully the copper ground rod is actually "copper bonded steel", which means there is very little copper actually in it. If somebody tries taking it to the scrap yard they will get a couple of pennies in return.

  7. The table looks great! Not to rain on your parade, but have you guys considered the hardwood floors? I see those beautiful floors and that copper and I can't help but to think it is only time before the copper "dings" the floors.... Tell your hubby to put his Wartburg degree to good use and fix this conundrum!!

    1. We originally thought about felt pads (and may still). The floor has lots of dings already. We call them "character marks". :)

  10. looks great, dude!
this definitely looks like it would be tricky to get level with those legs - but looks like you mastered that :)

  11. This is totally up my alley! Love it. Love. Don't even think I won't be back next week for the tutorial.

PS - Can I put in a post request? How, how, HOW, do you keep your wood floors so clean and shiney at all times? Ours are tres dark, and every little particle of dust that lands on them shows. Swiffer loves me.

  16. Gorgeous. If it were up to me, our house would have a console table in every room. They are my home decor weakness. I can not wait for the tutorial. I'm especially interested in how you distressed it. Was that that instapic with you and the hammer?

-) I do have a couple of questions for you if you don’t mind.
Is it just me or does it seem like a few of these remarks appear like coming from brain dead people?
And, if you are posting at other places, I would like to keep up with everything new you have to post.
