I have a thing with collections. I like the thrill of the hunt.
I have a globe collection. I can no longer cram any more globes in the office so I needed something new to collect. I turned my ever short attention to vintage washboards.
I’d pick them up here and there from antique stores. I had 3 or 4 just hanging out in my laundry room closet. For like the past year. Or two. I picked up a few more this past weekend to finish out the ol’ collection.
I’m using these boards as a reminder of how far the human race has come in terms of laundry. I need to appreciate my lovely washer and dryer.
Wait, who am I kidding? Laundry is still horrible. At least I now have a pretty collection to look at.
Ike just wants to know if his blanket is clean yet. He gets cold at night after his recent hair cut. (He also wasn’t into modeling. He had just woken up from a nap. A nap in my blankets.)
Now I need something new to collect. Suggestions? Are you a collector?
I think about how hard it used to be to wash laundry all the time, crazy!
ReplyDeleteYour collection looks awesome!
The wood on those looks awesome with that blue!
ReplyDeleteDid you make the curtain? And did you blog about it!
ReplyDeleteI did. A poor excuse for a tutorial is here... http://decorandthedog.blogspot.com/2011/08/laundry-how-tos.html ;)
DeleteMy husband's such an eco/money saving freak, if he saw this, he'd probably insist we buy washboards for our laundry.
ReplyDeleteI collected shot glasses from different places I visited throughout college. Super classy, right? They're all currently in a box, in a closet.
My friend, Anna, would love this soooo much! I am pinning it for her! xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteI'm just in awe that you have a pretty laundry room. Mine is in our creepy basement. Ew. Gross. More reasons to dislike/never do laundry. I should cute-ify my laundry room. Then I will love laundry! Right? No? Dang it. Regardless, I love your new collection.
ReplyDeletethat looks awesome! what a great idea for those- i always see them out and about!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that idea!! And I love your fabric for your shades, too!! :-)
ReplyDeleteCool idea! You guys are so clever. They look perfect for that space.
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome! Never would have thought to display vintage washboards, but they look so fun in there. I guess I've never really collected anything . . . unless yarn and unsold crochet projects counts? In that case, I have a really great collection.
ReplyDeleteLove the collection! I just collect antique cameras, but there's not a lot of antique places near me.
ReplyDeleteI love those... very cool! I collect skeleton keys. It's a sickness.
ReplyDeletei'm a milk glass collector. i just love it.
ReplyDeletemy parents have a few of the same washboards as you. i like the way to are displaying yours!
I'm not a huge collector but I do love to collect wedding pictures from my family. Everyone just looks so happy!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy that those used to be the way to wash?! Makes me so grateful for our washer. I don't really collect anything...except possibly dust on random things sitting around being useless and unnecessary :P
ReplyDeleteCool collection! I have no idea how washboards work, but I'm SO happily ignorant.
ReplyDeleteI love your collection! Dumb question: how did you hang them?
ReplyDeleteThey rest easy on 1 nail! Easy peasy.
DeleteIf my mom read blogs she would be ALL OVER YOU for this. She is in love with washboards. Such a terrific collection.
ReplyDeleteAntique rug beaters...I saw a collection on pinterest and it was AMAZING!

ReplyDeleteI hate doing laundry but I hate folding it more. We've come a long way from the washboard but someone please come up w a fix for that.
ReplyDeleteThis is so crazy-- I have the same collection. I just haven't gotten around to putting it on the wall! Ha! Guess I need to get on that :p
ReplyDeleteI collect antique sewing machines.. not exactly a light weight hobby. :)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call myself a collector, really. But now that you mention it I actually have several wash boards too! Why hasn't it occurred to me to put them in the laundry room? Super cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm collecting cute plates for our dining room plate display. Does that count?
ReplyDeleteThose are really cool! My mom has one in her laundry room, and I always liked it. Such a cute laundry room you have!
ReplyDeleteWhat cute laundry room you have! Your collection looks great against the wall color..and your window shade is just as pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe only things I collect are dust bunnies and receipts these days. I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of my grandma's laundry room. She had a vintage washboard hanging on the wall. I'd offer the washboard to you, but it probably wreaks of cigarette smoke. I think you should start collecting vintage Pyrex. Wait. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable Michelle. I've always loved the vitage washboards. You have the perfect place to display them.
ReplyDeleteI collect Fiesta dinnerware, mason jars, vintage tablecloths, old pictures, and tins.
