Dream House

We’re back from vacationing with family in Wisconsin.  I hadn’t really ventured very far into Wisconsin before.  It’s pretty.  The thing about there being lots of cows is totally true.  Cows equal cheese.  I kind of liked it there.

So much so that I bought a house…

In my dreams.

It was love at first sight with this house.  For me.  And Ike. Nate’s sister and her husband even mentioned it to me without knowing that I was already madly in love with it.   Fate, I tell you.

Nate wasn’t really into it.  He kills most of my fun.  He got hung up with the “it appears to be structurally sound” wording in the real estate listing. I’m sure it was just a poor choice of words.  Always a stickler for the details that husband of mine.

Side note:  Here’s some important information that you should know.  It’s a hard job being married to me.  I’m obsessive and compulsive. I want to move to every town we vacation in.

Having said that, I’m madly in love with this house and I haven’t even stepped foot in it.  Because Nate wouldn’t let me. And I don’t like to talk to strangers about setting up house tours.  I totally should have. *kicks self*  I have mentally moved into it though with a guess at what the floor plan is like.  Normal people do this, right?

Don’t answer that.

Who’s going to buy this house so I can live vicariously through you?  Do you mentally move into houses?  Do you want to move to your vacation destinations?  Does your husband hate fun?

  1. I adore Wisconsin. D and I want to own a getaway cabin there one day. Every fall you go up a couple times. It is just soooo beautiful. Everywhere we've been there! We really loved Door County. xo Kristin

  2. That house is lovely. So is Wisconsin. Been there for work a few times. Would love to restore a place like that one day. The wife isn't into anything older than 2+ years though, so.. it ain't happening.

  4. I'm in love with the house just from the picture. I've never been to Wisconsin though, but you move that house here to Alabama and give me enough money to quit work, I'm all over the makeover.

  6. ha ha, I live in Wisconsin and that house would be fantastic, but houses up here are a bit more expensive. But you got that right about cheese. :)

  9. Uhm duh, of course I mentally move into houses. I'm the kind of person who walks into a house and redecorates it in my head (sorry friends, neighbors, family, random open houses! I annoy my realtor because he can't tell when I like a house because I mentally move into all houses, even the ones I hate, just to see how it would be. Apparently normal people only move into "the one". LAME.

  10. Um, your husband doesn't know what the heck he's talking about. That house is fabulous. And clearly, it appears to be structurally sound. ;)

You and I should really be the ones making the house-buying decisions. I'm not sure why Nate thinnks he has a say?

  11. Yes, normal people do this... if I fall into the 'normal category'. I do it all the time. I too am obsessive and compulsive. ;)

  12. I don't mentally move into houses so much as I rehab them. (Me: "A fresh coat of paint on the porch and shutters...a new light...trim the azaleas...that would really improve the exterior. Do you think the owners would mind if I jotted that down and stuck it in their mailbox?" Husband: :-| "r u srs?")

  14. Ha, maybe my brother would buy it. He is thinking about moving to Wisconsin from Germany for his job because he works for a company that is located there ;)
I dream just like you. I imagine that I'd win the lottery all the time and how I would buy certain homes and redo them and then live there and move on to the next one. I have so many imaginary homes that I can't even count them LOL

  16. I say do it anyway. This is totally big enough to start our communal living dream...

  17. Ha! I think its the magazine 'this old house' that shows homes like that that need to be loved. Some are $1, as they need to be moved. I dream hard with those ;)

  19. Gorgeous doesn't even begin to describe this!!! I can totally relate to you because not only do I want to move everywhere I vacation, we actually do it. My poor husband is at the end of his rope with this lifestyle:(

  20. oh WI is the best. CHEESE CHEESE everywhere!

  21. If the house is still standing, it's totally structurally sound, right? Right ;) I say buy it! That porch alone is enough to justify the purchase!

  22. That house looks amazing! and I love Wisconsin!

  23. I would totally buy that house. I have about $20. Think they would play ball? I mean I know it's a risk with the structurally sound business, so clearly $20 is a pretty reasonable offer.

  24. I mentally move it all the time! I had a big "big city" phase of looking at apartments in big cities. Then I would browse the web for hours finding the right furnishings. I'm a crazy person and I'm okay with it.

  25. dream home for sure and Green Lake, WI would be a very nice place to live. Use to water ski on the lake every week from May through September when I was... a bit younger.

  26. Yikes I totally want to move to any nice town we drive through talking to strangers about does me in!! Thankfully someone else finally understands this phobia! And I definitely move into houses mentally as well... Can you imagine if we lived near each other? Our poor despairing husband's!

  27. Yes, yes and not anymore. Yes I move into houses mentally all the time. What would I change, what would I keep. And yes, I want to move to every place we vacation, some more than others. With retirement about 8-10 years away we are now vacationing is places we want to move so we can check them out. That means lots of vacations at the coast. And the not anymore, after 32 years together my husband has come over to my way of thinking and we now move into houses we have only seen, we remodel and redecorate every place we stay and we dream together.
    Loved this post.
    Thanks for sharing,

  28. That house is just incredible. I think I'll be your mental roommate.

Kev wanted a brand spanking new home in one of Dallas' gogillion idential subdivisions in the burbs. I explained calmly and clearly (with no tears, foot stamping, or emploring) that living in the burbs would lead in the early death of one of the two of us. So we bought the Little House. :)

And since our last two vacations have been France and Germany/Italy... yes. I most certainly want to move there.

  29. "Appears to be structurally sound" -- that's basically a guarantee that it's perfect and you should own it. I wish you'd gone inside! I LOVE IT. If you buy it, I will come help you fix it, if I can live in it. Just as a vacation home, occasionally.

  30. hahaha "Appears to be structurally sound"...but nobody has bothered to test whether appearances are deceiving ;)

  31. ooooooooh... so pretty. I would totally live in this house.
