West Elm Inspired Bedframe

The following is an actual conversation from a Thursday night.

Michelle:  "Wanna build a bedframe this week-end?"

Nate: “Grumble. Grumble.”

Michelle: “Ike, Nate is being a Grouch-a-saurus-rex again today.  Guess we’ll have to continue to live with our ugly bed skirt.”

The next day I come home to SketchUp drawings of a bedframe on the computer.  I started jumping up and down.  Nate pretended to grumble while I knew deep down he was pumped for another furniture build.  We headed to Lowe’s where we spent ~$50.  One week-end later we had a simple and beautiful bedframe.

We think it pairs well with our DIY Window headboard.

It’s crazy how $50 worth of wood can class a place right up.

I’m linking this baby on up to the ol’ Pinterest challenge tomorrow.  This beauty of a bedframe was inspired by a West Elm bedframe that no longer exists.  Luckily, my pin lives forever.

We’ll be back on Wednesday with the how-to. We’ve slept on it for over a week and haven’t fallen through so we feel safe sharing how we built it.  Nate even got all fancy with SketchUP.  Deep down he likes being married to a blogger.

Are you a fellow bed skirt hater?  Whose spouse secretly likes being married to a blogger?  Are you linking up to the Pinterest Challenge?

  1. Wow, it turned out gorgeous! Love it, and yes, it does go perfectly with the headboard.....so wish my hubby was handy like yours :( I do have a love/hate relationship with my bedskirt....lately mostly hate though....

  2. It looks awesome, dude!
The frame definitely makes the headboard shine - these two were meant to be together! :)
Can't wait for the tutorial... our mattress is STILL on the floor after the bedframe broke. Ha

  3. Beautiful! I wish Brad could build stuff. I think he'd really like it if he tried. I wouldn't be able to have the low board on the foot board part because I'm a habitual toe stubber. Clearly you're a more cautious walker than I.

  4. Awesome! Love the new bed frame! I do have a bedskirt - which I hate - but it covers up everything we store under the bed, so we are stuck with it for now. :( Definitely not a chic as this looks! :)

  9. Your bed frame looks awesome! I hate bed skirts too! I think I need to get started on making a few of these for our house! We have 7 bedrooms and only 1 bedframe. Yikes!

  10. That looks great. It's a small change, but it makes a huge difference!

  11. Wow, that looks great!!! I love that it only cost $50 - and it looks modern, but not overly so. Good job, Nate!

  12. AMAZING!!! There would be a lot more said that "grumble, grumble" if I asked John to build me a bedframe over the weekend. He'd look at me like I'd lost my mind. This looks awesome!

I think my hubs enjoys being married to a blogger, but they never want to admit it, do they?

  21. It looks awesome! Some bedskirts dont bother me, especially when it conceals the junk underneath the bed. But now I'm thinking our master bedroom would look MUCH better without one, too bad we just bought the mattress and ugly metal frame on wheels.

  22. ahhhhh i LOVE it! it's so modern and cool. I think Dan only likes being married to a blogger because when anyone asks him how the house progress is going, he can just send a link to the blog instead of actually having to communicate. LOL.

  23. SOOO classy. I welcome a few grumbles if it ends up with results like this! Well done guys!

  26. Yes, yes and yes!!! You headboard came out great!!

  27. You two make a great team!! I'm linking up today too. My project involves more hot glue than nails lol. If it involved an ATV or constructing a bed frame made from old skis, Mr FSL would be on board. It's me myself and I driving this crazy train!

  28. that totally turned out awesome!!! I've been telling Eric we need to build a bed frame so we can ditch the ugly bed skirt, but we haven't settled on one yet. I think I'm going to show him yours and Nate's... maybe it'll light a fire under him! ;)

LOVE the bed and it is absolutely perfect with the headboard!!!

  31. I love it! I also linked up. We made a coffee table from wooden crates. I would love to eventually get to the level of making a bed frame. That might be a while!

  40. We're also working on a West Elm inspired bed frame! I hope ours turns out as nicely as yours! We definitely take a bit longer to get things done though...haha. I'm hoping to be sleeping in it this coming weekend, we've had our mattress on the floor for far too long!

Here's my first post on it:

  41. This is amazing! Love the sleek design of the frame. My boyfiend has been wanting to make a bed for us, I think this convinced me to do it! Pinning this now!

  42. That is amazing that you guys made that! Plus you saved a ton of dough doing it yourself. That is what is great about Pinterest, the idea stays there forever, unlike the merchandise at the stores. Can't wait to pin your tutorial on how you guys did it, and with Nate's all fancy SketchUP work.

  43. Beautiful! Definitely keeping this in mind for our guest bedroom.

  44. Fantastic job, Michelle! We have "build a bed" on our to-do list for the next two months or so. I.e., whenever my husband gets around to it. :) I build a lot of things, but he wanted to tackle this project - so I gave him a few months.

Besides, I have a question, whenever I hover over one of the images, a 'P' sign shows up.I know its Pinterest but my question was which plugin you have used for it.I would too like to add a similar Pinterest plugin to all the images in my post.
