I’m back. I’ve been sick for a week. Viral infection turned sinus infection. I’m such a baby when I’m sick. Seriously. I’m a sad, disgusting mess. Luckily for Nate, I don’t get sick often. And Ike has been taking excellent care of me.
My family came down this week-end. I told them on Thursday that I was getting better. I really thought I was. The other bad thing about me getting sick? I lose my wittiness and that makes me sad. Ask my brother. I had no comebacks this week-end. Lame. Slam after slam and I just shook my head and agreed to avoid a coughing fit. This also explains my lack of blog posts. Who wants to read boring Michelle? Not me.
I told myself that I was totally fine and headed on antiquing with the fam on Saturday morning. We hit up a great antique mall in Coal Valley, Il. Antiquing with the family makes me happy.
One of my favorite parts of the mall is this shop that has a room filled with pretty Pyrex. (My mom doesn’t like the term “vintage pyrex” because that makes her vintage. So I refrain.)
My cell phone pictures don’t do this room justice. Heavenly. I want to live in this room. Or have my kitchen cupboards look like this room.
This is what death looks like in heaven…right before she hacks her one of her lungs into one of those pretty pink bowls…
Unfortunately this shop is very pricey on their Pyrex. (Or maybe fortunately for Nate and our savings account.) I held out for the next store where I previously scored some Pyrex bargains.
Good thing! These lovelies were marked ~$7 compared to the ~$20 in the pretty Pyrex shop.
Now I’m going to have to start cooking. What the what?
Nate informed that I really have to stop buying Pyrex because we are running out of room. I should do a poll on this topic. But my lymph nodes are too swollen to put that together…
Anyone else addicted to Pyrex? Is there a kitchen item that you just can’t pass up? Anyone else revert to childlike behavior when they are ill?
What a fun shop filled with pretty pyrex pieces! I love the yellow and blues.
ReplyDeleteI wish I have all this Pyrex here in Argentina!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the ones you bought :)
Love!
Romi
It's baskets for me! I can't get enough of them. It drives my boyfriend mad...
ReplyDeleteThat's some gorgeous pyrex you got there!
I voted that you keep scoring some awesome Pyrex dishes! I've never, ever found any vintage pyrex dishes anywhere. Hope you're feeling 39943948 x's better!
ReplyDeletewhat is it about pyrex that is just so darn happy!
ReplyDeleteglad you are feeling better!!!
Glad you're feeling better! I'm a mess when I get sick.
ReplyDeleteI haven't become addicted to pyrex yet but I it's got a high possibility. I hate using plastic anything when I cook so everything we've bought is glass (we have a 10 piece pyrex set).
My mom had a pyrex mixing bowl set that I've always had my eye on so if I ever see one, I'll probably snatch it up so I can have my own.
Super pretty!! I don't have any Pyrex yet...but I want to someday....so glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI never knew Pyrex came in so many colors! I've only ever seen the green (it's not a pretty green) and white and the yellow and white. I believe a new obsession is born in me.
ReplyDeleteI am addicted to Vintage Pryex & to Vintage Corning Ware!!! It brings back so many memories of my Mom cooking dinner for us. :) I love finding cheap finds @ flea markets & yard sales too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better!!!!
Beautiful!! makes me wish I lived closer so I could go to the shop and buy me some vintage pyrex!!
ReplyDeleteoh that place looks like heaven! I too love pyrex! I have my Grandma's mixing bowls, the set with green, yellow and red but I'm missing the red and have been looking for one at a good price. I got an adorable little green casserole with a glass top last summer at a flea market and I use it constantly!
ReplyDeleteThe set had green, yellow, red, and the tiny one was blue. That's the only one left of my mother's 1949 wedding gift.
DeleteI'm super jealous of your pink Pyrex. I have a thing for vintage cookware like Pyrex and Glasbake. Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're feeling better! It's always hard when the person in charge of keeping everyone else healthy (your job) is sick.
ReplyDeleteUp until your recent posts about Pyrex I had never really seen the appeal, but seeing them in all together in that one picture I can understand why that might make someone giddy! These all remind me of big dinners at my Grandma's because I'm sure she had a few of the light green design. Maybe I'll look again when I see these at Goodwill next time.
Take care!

So pretty! I don't even like pink and I like those dishes. I'm glad you managed to survive the weekend, even though the whole sickness thing sounds really miserable.
ReplyDeleteI love those dishes! So cute! And what a good price! I've recently fallen in love with green as an accent colour so one of your first images has me full of ideas!
ReplyDeleteThe Pyrex looks so pretty! If I ever get glass front doors in our kitchen I'd like to fill a cabinet with these!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the shop name where you found the pink Pyrex?
ReplyDeleteI found it at the County Fair Mall in Coal Valley, Il. It's the middle shop (don't remember the exact name).
DeleteFor me it is Tupperware. I go to garage sales and goodwill and can't stop buying the stuff. Maybe it is the lifetime guarantee or that I remember taking things to the church and neighbors with it in my mother's Tupperware with a label so she got her Tupperware back. I find I do the same because even though I spent a quarter on it...I want it back from the priest
ReplyDeleteCast iron. I barely have a kitchen (meaning a hot plate is my stove, and a toaster oven does the rest of the cooking), but I can't resist a good cast iron deal.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, so lovely! I want some, too! I hope your lymph nodes are 100% back in action soon. Being sick is the worst.
ReplyDeleteLove the pink Pyrex! I really love all the bright Pyrex colors. Have you seen this blog? ... pyrexcollective.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIt let me know I'm not alone in my love of Pyrex. ;)
Cheryl
LOVE IT! I love that yellow, but that pink is just oh so pretty. I'm glad you got a deal! Feel better too!
ReplyDeletesorry you're totally sicky! :( As for Pyrex, we were lucky enough to inherit a full set of bowls from Eric's grandma, but I'd love some baking dishes too! Those pink ones are amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh I am so glad to hear you are recovering from your "SARS". LOL. I love me some Pyrex. I wish my cabinet space was more accomodating for it. My favorite color has always been the aqua, bestill my heart.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you've been. I'm such a winy mess when I'm sick as well. Thank God for husbands who put up with us. I may have told you before that I can't do pyrex. It reminds me too much of growing up in the 70s. Every mom had pyrex with those flowers. They were used at picniks, dinners, block parties, etc. I do like the look of the pink you chose, though. BTW, thank you for filling out my survey!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE PINK! Such a great, fun and cheery color. And it matches your coat. Everyone needs dishes to match their coat.
ReplyDeleteOne can never have too much. That is all there is to it. Glad you are feeling better. What a bummer!
Glad you're better again. I haven't thought about Pyrex for many years but adore the pink and white combo!!
ReplyDeleteI have a few but I don't use them as often as I should. How do you store pyrex?? I used to keep the lids upside down inside the bowl part, but they started chipping!!! Now what?
ReplyDeleteI don't have enough yet. I need more to help you out! ;)
DeleteI have several of those pyrex dishes. I have to say, they are the MOST used storage dishes in our kitchen. I have updated storage like Lock & Lock and we still reach for the pyrex first every time. These were dishes my Grandmother had and used daily also. They are the perfect sizes and as old as they are, not a chip.
ReplyDeleteOh sorry you weren't feeling well. I'm such a baby when it comes to being sick, but sometimes it is nice to be taken care of. Anyway...no, can't say Pyrex really ever catches my interest when I go antiquing, although I do like the pretty flowers :)
ReplyDeletethose are so purty!! i love them!
ReplyDeleteso glad u are feeling better..i knew something must be wrong as u were so quiet this week! i only get sick every once in a while too and it's not pretty when it happens!
Love it! Was this out at the place my family so lovingly calls "The Junk Barn" on Rt. 6? I've been meaning to go for months!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing "yes"!!! Definitely go!
DeleteCount me in... completely addicted to pyrex and proud of it. Also quickly running out of cupboard room, but that is not going to stop me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow do you run out of room for Pyrex? Pyrex IS room. It CREATES space and organization. If you're running out of space, you should buy MORE pyrex.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE PYREX!!! I recently found an entire shelf FULL of teal and yellow (pretty much my favorite colors) Pyrex at my grandma's house. She was bound and determined to give them to me right then and there since she "never" uses them anymore. I almost took her up on that offer until she told me that her grandma gave them to her for her wedding so I told her to wait and give them to me at my wedding (although at my rate she'll be long gone before then...). your pink pyrex is so pretty too! I don't think I've ever seen that color before!
ReplyDeleteI regret passing on a really faded blue pyrex bowl about a month ago. But my real addiction is old cookbooks. I have to tell myself not to go buy one anytime I see them at the goodwill near my apartment. And then I immediately ignore that voice and buy it anyways.
ReplyDeleteI love your collection. Especially the pink..my husband & I both love the bowls. Have bought each of my 5 kids a set.. and odds & ends for us, plus 2 sets...every where we go we are always looking..I love that we can do this together. am glad you are feeling better..
ReplyDeleteI used to go nuts for Jadeite until that awful Martha Stewart publicized her collection, started a fad, and all sorts of fake/new Jadeite was marketed. I do love Pyrex. They never seem to run out of fabulous designs or colors, do they?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to come upon a room like that, but like you, I would be holding out for a bargain!
ReplyDeleteHey there...I found you through a comment you left at Domestic Imperfection. I am OBSESSED with vintage..ahem I mean just plain old...Pyrex. Loving your blog and will be back :)
ReplyDeleteLove the Pyrex, I am going to have to make a trip to that antique mall! Love to hear about new places in the QC to go! :)
