Holly Jolly Dining Room

The holiday tour of our house continues in the dining room. (Check out our mudroom and mantel if you missed them!)

We have a major red theme going on in the rest of the house but I also really like blue/silver for Christmas.  Lucky for me, blue/silver works well in our formal dining room.

I wish there was a way to make Christmas lights look awesome during the day.  That will be how I make my millions.  Don’t steal my idea.  I have to work today so I can’t apply for my patent.

I’m not going to lie.  This room is mainly for looks.  It’s the first room you see as you walk in the front door.  We’re not formal people.  Some day I’ll make it useful.  Until then, it’s a good place for 1 of our 2 trees…

And our hutch….

I’d fire my photographer for taking crooked pictures…but then I’d have to take them myself.

That’s our dining room all decked out in blue and silver!

Do you have a formal dining room? Do you use it?  What’s your holiday color scheme this year?

  1. No Ike? I expected him to have a big red bow on and under the tree.

We have an eat-in kitchen which I am not fond of but it does do wonders for Girls Night at my house since everyone hovers around the food.
I love the look of your dining room and that hutch, awesomesauce!

  3. Love it!! I feel like it would be beyond fabulous though if you had some either silver/blue glittery garland OR greenery with some battery operated lights tucked up in the chandelier. Unless of course it would result in burning the house down, which in that case, definitely don't do it. I love the blue and silver though, and am really enjoying all of your holiday posts!! :)

  6. We were married in early January, so silver and blue have a special place in my Christmas heart. You're dining room looks awesome :)

  7. The room looks amazing and even better that it's just a showroom because then you never have to worry about keeping it looking so great. It just stays put!

  8. So pretty! I'm a fan of blue on trees too! I had a bunch of ornaments from last year, and when they were put away in the attic I guess some candles sneaked into the box and well, with insane hot Oklahoma summers, ruined my ornaments! Booooo, so I went with fuschia this year.

  9. I love your colors (including wall color!) in this room. I'm doing an aqua/red for Christmas. Vintage-style.

  10. Beautiful! I like your happy little tree topper too. And our dining room is also just for show, except on nights when we're feeling super fancy and actually eat dinner there, like last night when I actually cooked a real dinner (chicken helper).

  11. We use our dining room only because we don't currently have a table in our kitchen (or necessarily enough room for one). We're thinking about knocking a door in one wall and connecting it to the current office, though, for a breakfast room. We shall see.

The blue/silver totally does work in there, and I love the wall color!

  12. The tree looks perfect, and I absolutely love the wall color! I'm sure you've heard that about a thousand times, but I just had to say it again. :)

  16. Totally ♥-ing your blue & silver dining room! I have a tree with white lights setting on the baby grand in my front room. It is filled with angels - except for the capiz star at the top. In the family room is the boys' tree with multi-color lights & all the ornaments collected/hand-made through the ages...

  17. We don't have a formal dining room. However even when our kids were little, we frequently had what we called "an evening out--in". We'd dress up, make something special to eat (or get some special prefab type of dinner). We used our china, cloth napkins, candles, etc. We did this in our eat-in kitchen and had soft music playing so it was like dining out, but right in our own home.IMHO, if you've got a dining room, use it! What are you saving it for?

Your blue color scheme is very pretty for Christmas. Now get in there and eat :-) Make every day a celebration!

  18. I really love that you match your decor to the room. Cause I do that, too. ;)

This looks great. I really like the blue and silver.

  19. Love it! I love how it's just sprinkled throughout your home! We have those same dining chairs. And, in the kitchen, we have the same stools. Love the industrial touches in the kitchen.

  20. I just found your blog and we have a formal dining room and do not use it. We maybe use it 2 times a year. The rest of the year is spent throwing stuff on the chairs or table and using it as a walk thru every day. Love the color of your room!

  22. I do love the color of the dining room and the tree looks perfect in it with the ornaments tying in to the scheme. The hutch is another gorgeous color (giving me ideas for my bar) and you have some stunning pieces on it.
