Cracked Sugar Cookies

Anyone else super behind on life and blogging right now?  Okay, good.

Anyone want to eat cookies because they are behind on life..and blogging?  Okay, good.

Anyone just want to curl up and and nap with Ike (who is also recovering from the long week-end)?…

It’s Dare to DIY time over at NewlyWoodwards.  This week’s challenge is “Dare to Eat Cookies”.  Can do!  “Dare to Eat Cookies and then Nap”…totally in.

Cracked sugar cookies are a family favorite.  They have a nice buttery sugary taste that everyone loves. I like how festive they look with their red and green sprinkles.  I’m a sucker for sprinkles…and sugar…and butter.  It’s about time to intensify my workout routine.  Darn you sprinkles.

Cracked Sugar Cookies

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream sugar, shortening, and butter. Beat in 3 egg yolks and vanilla.  Blend in flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Roll into balls, roll in sugar. Sprinkle the top of the cookies with colored sugar. Bake at 300 ~20 minutes. Eat up!

Be sure to check out all of the other lovely recipes over at NewlyWoodwards!

How was your holiday week-end?

  1. My holiday weekend was awesome!! I hope yours was too!! I am totally in with the cookies and a nap!!!! These cookies look so good and the recipe seems easy peazy, which is just what I like!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

ps I noticed that cute christmas pillow, have you started your christmas decorating?

  2. I am approximately ten million years behind on both life and blogging. And I had all the best intentions of making cookies for Dare to DIY, but then our entire kitchen was coated in plaster dust and I gave up. EPIC FAIL AT COOKIES. Glad you had better luck. Those look delicious.

  3. Cookies and a nap sounds like the perfect way to continue procrastinating on life and blogging! I'll take about five cookies please.

  4. Those cookies look good. We normally do Christmas candies, but don't make cookies at all. Possibly that needs to change...

  5. I LOVE Christmas cookies. Just one of the many things that make this season one of the best. :)

  6. Yummy - mouth is officially watering. When shall I come over to eat some?

    Happy Monday!

  7. Oooh girl. You're speaking my language. Those look delish.

  8. I love sugar cookies during the Holidays. Love your recipe because it doesn't require rolling out dough and using cookie cutters and frosting to decorate. Small effort, big impact. That's my kind of baking :)

  9. Nothing is better than a sugar cookie at Christmas! These look delish!! Thanks so much for linking up today! :)
