Don’t you love bloggy trends? Keep Calm posters, chevron, buntings, chalkboards, etc. You know, the trends that get blogged into the ground. Just when you think that you can’t see another _____ (insert least favorite trend here), a blogger goes an does it again.
That’s me and chalkboards. I love them. A lot. I can’t get enough of them. I know they make some cringe…like when I see a bunting in a room other than a nursery. Buntings. Bleh. Nothing against you bunting lovers. We all have our thang. Chalkboards are mine.
I’m too much of a commitment-phobe to paint an entire wall with chalkboard paint (even though I drool over every one that I see) but I have made room for a smaller board in our house. Once I made my first board, I was hooked. I recently discovered chalk pens (thanks Ashley) and the need for another chalkboard arose.
A $3 Salvation Army print/frame turned chalkboard was just what my mudroom was looking for. It just may not have known it.
This is what I see when I walk in the door every week night at around 5:20PM…
Makes me smile every time.
What’s your favorite bloggy trend? What’s your least favorite? Do those Keep Calm posters make you smile or do you want to set every poster you see on fire? Do share!
Chalk pens are fabulous. They are easy to write with and are very bright. I purchased mine at Michael’s Print a 50% off coupon from their website before you go!
I am a HUGE chalkboard fan. I turn pictures, mirrors, even furniture into chalkboards. Love your pop of red.
ReplyDeleteI also love chalkboards, and word art, which I was loving before I knew they were so bloggy trendy.I do love seeing the bloggy trends though, I am not a tchotcke/knicknack person so I don't like a lot little crafty things!......what a great way to be greeted when you come home!! I love Ike!
ReplyDeleteI love chalkboard pens! I use them on the front/back my spice jars to keep notes about what spices to use with what meats, etc. (http://alliferg.blogspot.com/2011/08/i-am-only-five-days-and-one-super-easy.html)
ReplyDeleteI love those chalkboard pens! I find reasons to use them whenever I can. (I've been known to go into the Starbucks where I used to work and draw their signs for them)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I do want to light all those Keep Calm posters on fire.
Casey, thank you for being the commenter to say it- I hate the Keep Calm posters as well. I'm sorry, I just do. They seem so overdone and unoriginal. I hope that doesn't offend anybody!
ReplyDeleteI do love a chalkboard, though. I made one very similar to yours (from a gifted frame) to hang over our giant breaker box in the kitchen. :)
AWW! Made me smile too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been obsessed with chevron - keep wanting more and more of those little zig zags in my life
ReplyDeletewhat's not to love about a chalkboard?! I'm still loving chevrons...and simultaneously so tired of all the kitchy little sayings plastered all over the world (keep calm and carry on is just one of the many). :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not over chalkboards at ALL. I keep thinking chevron will die but it refuses. I wish someone would bring dish-full-of-dirty-dishes in style, because I'm rocking that look pretty hard.
ReplyDeleteI love chalkboards, too. And I also can't bring myself to paint a wall with paint. I actually made my very first chalkboard that I'm waiting for my husband to hang. It's GINORMOUS, so I'm scared to do it myself and screw up the brand new walls. Cannot wait.
ReplyDelete(And don't you love chalkboard pens? I have a few chargers I sprayed with chalkboard paint and I love to write messages on them to see if Ryan notices.)
**SINK full of dirty dishes I mean. Is it Friday yet?
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with chalkboards!! I just made my first with out of a picture frame (8x10) & it will be dry tonight! Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they made chalk pens! I will be heading to Michael's with my little ole coupon. ;)
Thanks for posting!
I love the chalkboard! It's looking so awesome in there. (Still loving chalkboards here.)
ReplyDeleteYup, another fan of the chalkboard. In my last house I had an ugly door leading outdoors from the kitchen and I painted it with chalkboard paint. It became a fun game when guests came over to see what silliness we would find on the board afterwards. Still love the chevron but have never understood the bunting.
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is just so... welcoming! Why wouldn't you wanna come home?
ReplyDeleteI love chalkboards too!! We have one in our bathroom I use to write love notes to the hub, but he won't ever write back!!! What a brat. And just so you know, Ike puts a smile on my face every time I see him too.
ReplyDeleteCute! I have an aversion to chalk boards and chalk, so I haven't jumped on the chalk board bandwagon yet.
ReplyDeleteAwww what a nice welcoming committee you have. :) Chalk pens must be what restaurants use to make their specials signs so spiffy! I love how crisp and clean it looks!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Kelly on the "sink-full-of-dirty-dishes" trend. Maybe we'll start a movement and soon last week's pots and pans will be featured in House Beautiful kitchens...
i still love chalkboards! and the red is so cheerful!
ReplyDelete:) I'm glad you're loving the chalkboard pens!!! And might I say... you're writing looks so much nicer than mine! I need to practice. ;)
ReplyDeletechevrons: meh - I lived through the 70's once already...
ReplyDeletechalkboards: well, when I started teaching way back when, that's all we had to write on in front of the class. (although, I just did one & used a white Sharpie paint pen for the lettering. Permanent, I know -- it's for display over my cupboards...)
"KEEP CALM...": ha! -I've discovered some very interesting variations that I've "Pinterested". My favorite so far:
"KEEP
CALM
AW, SCREW IT,
PANIC
AND
RUN AMOK"
Fave bloggy trend at the moment? Beadboard and batten - wanting to do some in my house!!! Least fave? Having to paint Every. Last. Wooden. Thing. I love me some paint, but sometimes a beautiful wood finish should be left alone to age gracefully =)
ReplyDeleteI am not a trend follower generally but I am looking at wallpaper and stenciled walls in a new light. Love the welcome sign.
ReplyDeleteI love chalkboards too! You picked a great color for that frame. It looks good in your mud room. It's funny that you're posting about a project that everyone has been doing. I was debating whether or not to post about a frame-turned- into-a-tray project that I'm doing. I guess it doesn't hurt to show others your spin on it since everyone has something a bit different to offer. For instance, I haven't seen red used on the chalkboard before and I love it.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I have been HORRIBLE with reading blogs lately and I'm so glad I took some time to look! The mudroom turned out wonderfully!!
ReplyDeleteI love chalkboards too, we painted our old pantry door in chalk paint I just am too indecisive to know what I want on there! Also, barn doors...there will be one in the nursery before this child turns 1, yeah that's accepting the fact that it won't happen before she comes!
So cute! Where did you get all the sayings in your frames? I love the one about the dog and would make it but if I could find it online, that would be great! THANKS!!
