Last Friday, Nate and I took an afternoon trip to Galena, Il. Galena is a town rich in history. It was hopping back in the day when Chicago was still a swamp. Although Chicago clearly moved up in ranks, Galena is still a great town to spend an afternoon or week-end.
Some of our Galena favorites include:
The historic main street that is home to lots of shops and restaurants. (Our favorite is Procento’s pizza)…
The beautiful views seen around town…
The old homes…
And the home of Ulysses S. Grant’s home…
On the way there we stopped at a few scenic overlooks and Palisades State Park to enjoy the fall scenery…
And what do I do with my short attention span while Nate practices up on his photog skills? Bust a move, of course…
What’s better than a Friday afternoon off of work spent hanging out in a fun town and soaking up some scenery with this dude?…
Not much.
Where’s your favorite day destination? How do you entertain yourself while your significant other/friends pursue their passions? Please tell me I’m not the only one getting down my bad self…
I love Galena! My MIL just went with some friends last weekend. I was jealous :-)
ReplyDeleteY'all are so cute! What a charming little town. I too am a random break-it-down dancer. I sometimes don't even realize. David laughs at me because I'll bust a move whenever the mood strikes. Haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous town, and the photos are breathtaking!! My fav is of you busting a move!! :)) I live in Michigan and I love to drive north to see the fall colors!!
ReplyDeleteOh that town looks dreamy. That is definitely my kind of place. Looks like you guys had a great time and you are not alone on the moves. I've been known to break out in a few random embarrassing moves myself...and not only in the privacy of my home, sometimes in the street or a store lol. I have no shame ;-)
ReplyDeleteGalena's great! I love getting out of the city. We've been thinking about going back, I hear it's fun at Christmas. We go to Starved Rock a lot, that's our favorite day destination.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful fall weekend! I forgot that Chicago was, at one point, uncool. :)
ReplyDeleteps-that is a gorgeous picture of you two. The one with your killer moves is a keeper, too. ;)
I love taking little day trip adventures like this, especially to explore someplace new. Looks like you guys had a great day :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun - those fall colors are amazing! Our favorite day trip is to Sonoita in southern AZ. Some of the best wine country outside of Napa! =)
ReplyDeleteI like Galena, too. But Ryan gets bored by the shops. We both like the old houses, though. Looks like a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteDo you ever go to Starved Rock State Park? That's a fun day trip, too. Great views and walking trails.
How funny! I was just yesterday suggesting Galena to my husband for a quick getaway trip. Now, I'm going to have to do some researching and plan something. Love that fall scenery and my husband will LOVE the history aspect!
ReplyDeleteAlso, kim @ Newlywoodwards I noticed you mentioned Starved Rock State park. That's my hometown area & where we were engaged and married as well. Let me know if you need any pointers or suggestions for your next trip. We love Utica, Illinois :)
ReplyDeleteLove Galena. We were fortunate enough to buy a home in The Galena Territories so I get up there at least once a month. It will be our retirement fund someday. :) Cannova's is one of our favorite restaurants but our kids like Vinnie Vanucci. ( sp?) The shops are great so that is what the girls do while the boys golf or ski. So glad to read that so many other people like it there too.

ReplyDeleteGREAT pic of you and Nate! I miss the fall colors so much. Reno is one color....brown. Bleh.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely gorgeous views! And the fall colors are absolutely stunning! We're just starting to get a bit of fall color out here in Cali. :)
ReplyDeletePS- your hair is stunning in the pic of you and Nate!!! HOT LADY!
I love Galena! Makes me miss Iowa and the quick weekend getaway spot in Illinois. The picture of both of you is great, it's calling for a frame to call home... or better yet, a Christmas Card!
