Stay or Go

If you’ve been reading for awhile you know that I have been looking for a shower curtain for our guest bathroom.  I tried a white one.  I tried a black and white one. I tried a pink and grey striped one. (If I was a good blogger I’d have pictures of them…but trust me.  Not good.)

Now I am on shower curtain #4 (West Elm's Stripe Shower Curtain).  Should this decision be this difficult? No.  Third world problems are hard.

Today I would like your vote.  Should shower curtain #4 stay or go?

Labor Day 140
Labor Day 144

I’m usually a big believer in decorating your house with things you love.  I think I just don’t love shower curtains.  They all look weird to me.  I’m leaning towards liking it but I’m just not sure.  I’d like to hear what you all think.

I plan on purchasing new bath mats (I gave up on the runner idea because they are all too expensive for my liking) once I decide on a curtain.  (Nate and I also realized that the light bulbs in here cast off a really yellow glow so we will be switching them out soonish.)  Any other thoughts on decorating this space?  Do share.  There are no wrong answers.

Feel free to comment with why you chose “stay” or “go”!

  1. Love that curtain! If I were you, I would buy a teal floor mat, and maybe hang in the curtain some pompons that match.

    Hugs!

  2. I love the curtain but I think you need something bright and fun to lighten up the room. Maybe use the curtain but add some bright trim on the stripes like yellow or something.

  3. So, I WANT to love it, but I'm not sure if I do. I feel like it makes the walls read more bluish, but maybe that's just the lighting in the photo. I agree with Jacqueline's thoughts, too. Maybe a pop of yellow would help? Because on its own I really do like the curtain.

  4. I agree with Cindy. I want to like it. I like the idea of the gray stripes, but I don't know that the grays (wall vs curtain) go together very well. Maybe it's just how it looks in the pictures?

What about a shorter white curtain? Or blue. Or yellow?

  5. I like that curtain, I've coveted it for a while! It looks fine in the room, but I kinda agree with everyone else. Maybe it's the paint color? Or you could use a bright colored rug. Either way I do love that curtain.

  6. I really love this one (confession - it is on my personal wish list!)

  7. I really like it. I actually want the exact curtain in black, but West Elm doesn't make it. So, I went with a black curtain. I don't know about it but it's fine for now. =) Why can little things give us such a fuss?

(PS I seriously snorted at Third World Problems. I always tell Ryan that I have first-world problems. Like being without Internet for four days. Or having to drive all the way to Davenport to get the pantry organizer.)

  8. I love the curtain! I like how the horizontal stripes add a little interest! I have to agree with the others that you might need something else to brighten up the room though. I don't know if it's the photos but the bathroom seems dark to me...

  9. I don't think that it's bad, but I think it could be better. I know you were having trouble with the length too, but maybe you can buy a white plastic deal and make a curtain from some fabric you love because I think it needs to be taller. I'm not sure if it should go to the ceiling or anything, but I think it might be nice to be tall enough so you don't see the shower head from outside the shower. Make sense? Good luck!

  10. I wanted to add a few exclamation marks to the "Stay" options. Here they are !!!!!!. I love the curtain. It's simple and chic and with new mats and accessories will pull together nicely! I'm sure if you did change your mind though it will still look fabulous.

  11. Black and white are good with grey but I think you need some color. What about some yellow or red?

  12. I feel your pain. I hate shopping for shower curtains because I never like anything that I see.

I agree with Andrea. What adding a brighter color into the mix like yellow? I think the citron curtain may look good in there. But I don't know your opinion on yellow...

  13. Love that curtain - I'd decorate a whole room around it :) That said, maybe a little too much gray going on? Any plans yet to color up the space?

  14. Perhaps I'd change my mind after all the accessories/color are added, but I think the grey & stripes looks a bit like a jail cell :-(

But, I've seen a kids room completely transform (blog is IHeart Organizing), where she also did bluish-grey stripes on the walls....however, with the accessories & colors she chose, it turned out fabulous!

  15. I found this shower curtain that I think would look really good:
    http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=127957&RN=10&

It brings in the yellow you have in your guest room and/or you can use teal accents.

And it looks to have the same colors as your roman curtains in your Laundry Room (which I LOVE!) where did you get the fabric for that shade?

  16. I like the curtain (stripes are sorta my thing lately, not that I have any in my house...yet) and I definitely think you could make it work by bringing in a bright accent like other people suggested. It looks greenish-gray to me, maybe because it's next to the more blue-gray walls? (At least on my computer monitor. For all I know the walls are actually purple or something.) :)

BUT--I seriously am getting ready to give up on ever finding a household item or paint color that is perfectly gray and not gray with green or purple or blue sneaking in. Arrggghh.

  17. i didn't read any of the other replies, but i love it as is! you could alwys embellish it with some yellow fabric flowers or something to give it a pop. maybe that is what bugging you i all the gray? i love the gray, but just trying to help you love it!

  18. Oh man, if you're sticking with that shower curtain, be sure to get some bright, colorful accents. ...or else you may end up with waaaaay too much gray. Way too much.

  19. I love that curtain! I would say you could go 2 ways - add a pop of color OR stick with the monochrome look.
For #1: I would totally add yellow or teal! Maybe in the form of towels, art, accessories, etc.
For #2: I would add black and white framed photos and brushed nickel & white accessories.

  20. really like the grey and white striped curtain, but it'll really depend on what you accessorize with!

  21. Like the curtain, but I know what you mean about it just not feeling right. Have you thought about raising the rod to nearly ceiling height? It would make it look more like a dramatic drape than a shower curtain. Here's one I found on Pinterest...

I think it's from Young House Love. Just a thought =)

  22. I want to like it. I like the idea of it a lot. I'm just not sure if it really goes with the wall color.

  23. I love your polls :)
And I love the stripes :)

  24. You need a color punch. If not the shower curtain, then your accessories really need to ramp it up.

  25. Oh I like it a lot and think it looks great. Love the color.

  26. I like the stripes but I'd love to see some colour in there...yellow or turquoise or some other shade of blue...or you could keep the curtain and go with some cute colourful accessories!

  27. i like this. it's the big stripes, i have a problem with gray smaller stripes. however, i do concur with the need for color...but you could do it with artwork and accessories.

  28. It should definitely stay! Love it!

  29. i think a new choice of flooring would help...specifically something in the gray/white/or black family...the brown lino just takes away too much from the color scheme. just a suggestion...

  30. I love it, it's fantastic. Though, I do wish they made them in an extra long length so you can hang them higher, ya know... that'd be sweet.

  31. LOVE IT!!! I like how well it coordinates with the tissue holder, same shade, but the tissue holder is just metallic. I think YELLOW accessories would look great with the gray, like a rug with gray shades (to pull in the paint shade and the curtain shade) and yellow, maybe in big random flowers or something, and some art on the wall, white frames with yellow prints, maybe with some small pops of red. Every room can use some red, even just a small bit.

  32. Like, something similar to patterns like these (because stuff at Anthropologie is WAY too expensive, I think, but still fun):
