Fall 2012 Tablescape

I have officially gone to the dark side of blogging.   I totally drank the blogger Kool-Aid.

I decorated my table for a fake dinner party.  And I had fun doing it.  Like a lot of fun.  Nate was equally as impressed when he came home to a beautifully decorated table but no supper to eat.  I only have so much time in my day dear husband.

For those of you that aren’t bloggers, bloggers have these things called “link parties”.  Usually these parties have a theme.  Today’s theme is “Fall Tablescapes".  I just realized explaining this is like explaining to your childhood friend that you are spending the night at a person’s house that you met off of the internet.  Blogging is strange.

I picked up most of the items from thrifts stores or clearance racks throughout the past couple of months.  I knew that fall and the holidays were big for table decorating in blogland and I thought I’d try it out.  Seriously a ton of fun.  I can’t wait to host more fake parties for Ike and I.  Or I could invite real friends over but that’d just be weird.  And I’d have to do dishes.

Overall, I’m digging the relaxed yet fancy vibe this little fall tablescape of mine has going on.

Sources: The greenery in the center was purchased at Michael’s for $1.99.  Lucky find.  The chargers were found at Goodwill for $0.50 a piece.   The “china” was also from Goodwill.  Marked $6.38 for a set of 12…and it was 50% off.  The “napkin rings” are acorn ornaments found at the Salvation Army for $1.00.  The pumpkins and napkins I purchased a few years ago from Joann’s.  As well as the fabric for the table runner. The glasses are the Libbey Country Fair Drinking Jars that we use on a daily basis. We built the table (read about it here).

Decorated for any fake dinner parties lately?  What’s your favorite fall recipe that I should eat at this lovely little fall table?

  1. My very favorite part oF this is this post is that hubby came home to no dinner. Such high expectations. It really looks great and I lie that everything was so thrifty. I tend to start using things the day before I decorate the table, which does not a thrifty table make.

  4. I love your fake dinner party table setting. I so wanted to play along with the fall tablescape party but my entry way is devouring all of my time these days. Ugh.

  5. Haha, you did go to the dark side! Styling and staging, baby. Looks great, though! Love the drinking jars - I need some of those.

  6. I drank the Koolaid too... Jesse came downstairs and wanted to know why his fruit was on the table and not in the fruit bowl, but at least he thought it looked nice haha.

  8. I daresay this is my favorite scape I've seen so far today. Relaxed yet fancy describes it perfectly!

  9. Here's the thing, though--if you were REEEEAAAAALLY over on the dark side of blogging, there would be like 50,000 exclamation points after each sentence, you never would have admitted to the whole idea of a tablescape being kind of goofy, and you CERTAINLY would have made a big fancy dinner for your "hottie hubby!!!11!!!" who you would definitely refer to as your "hottie hubby!!!11!!!" every time he was mentioned. So, I still have faith in you. Your table is lovely (I especially like the table runner--that's very pretty!), but when I show up for dinner tonight, I expect there to be food on it, lady.

  12. Oh my gosh Michelle, this may be my favorite post to date. Yes, the table is beautiful, but this is hilarious.

I was reading a blog and my husband peeked over my shoulder and made fun of something in their house and I got completely offended, I mean this was my friend's house! Oh wait, it's a blog I read. I don't know her, I've only talked to her through comments...he totally called me out. I tried to explain about how you get to be friends with these people and 'I just realized explaining this is like explaining to your childhood friend that you are spending the night at a person’s house that you met off of the internet. Blogging is strange.' is the perfect way to explain the look on his face.

Bloggers are whole society unto themselves- I used to make fun of them too and now I'm knee deep

And I staged a table once for a post and felt like an idiot, but the picture looked so much better!

  13. I love (!!!!!) your chairs. Where did you get them from?

  14. I walked past my table yesterday and had the thought that I'll never be one of those tablescape people - getting a table cloth on there is about all I'm up to - but many, you make it look tempting.

  15. You may have drank the koolaid, but that is one damn fine table. Even if it's for no one.

  16. I also love that there was no dinner! My sister and I do some styled shoots and we laugh that at our age we still like to "play house"!

  17. I do this during Christmas. I haven't done a fall one though. I've been thinking about it. I love your glasses!

  18. So funny Michelle! I always love reading your posts. :) I LOVE the Mason Jar glasses!

  20. What a fabulous party for one! Looks great. I am just happy if there isn't a ton of paperwork all over the table.

  21. Ooooooh. Your fake table setting far surpasses my fake table setting. I only did one plate, ha!

  22. OMG, hilarious as always. I love your fake dinner party setting and I kind of agree that this is easier and creates a lot less mess. I may just have to get on board with this:)

  23. Official dark side. Driving 6 hours to visit internet girlfriends is pretty normal compared to fake dinner parties.

  24. This table make me so happy and want to sit down and have dinner. I love how simple yet distinctly autumn it is. Wonderful job!

  25. Pretty! I hope if I ever visit you that you go to such lengths as this for me. And in terms of dinner, I like chicken. Greek salad is good. Oooh, and maybe make some stuffed mushrooms.

OK, so are you going to keep the chargers and china for other fake dinner party photo shoots?

  26. Fake dinner parties are the best!!! No dirty dishes, no worries about what to cook, and you don't have to clean the dust bunnies under the couch, that's a bonus in my book! I love your table, your dog is precious!

  27. Love this and love that table runner! This is the same thing that happened at our house when the hubs came home to a pretty dining room table. Ours is usually a catch all for everything we drop when we come in the door. Fake dinner parties are the best! ;)

  28. Super fun - you decorate the way I do: clearance and goodwill! Way to go, it looks beautiful and the lighting in the photo looks like a magazine. First time I've seen your blog.

  29. Very cute. You're inspiring me to get back at the Goodwill shopping...

And I would MUCH rather decorate for a fake dinner party than cook a real dinner any day!

  39. LOVE your chairs and the table:) Pretend is great! Now you know if you have friends over how to decorate your table. I did the same thing yesterday.. Hubby came home (me and the kiddos were gone) and he knew how I spent my day! I didn't clean mine up till this morning (since we never ate dinner on it) when my 11 month old needed his chair back at the table - goodbye pretty table;( It was nice while it lasted! New follower from the Lettered Cottage! Come visit if you get a moment! Best, Katie

  41. Welcome to the dark side.

Now you HAVE to host a dinner party. Sloppy joes all the way.

  42. Looks great! I haven't gotten a chance to try my hand at decorating a table yet, but I'll get some good ideas from this, I'm sure. Might have to even get some of those mason jar glasses... but I adore those chairs, where did you find those?
