Summer Sunday Mornings

I know I’ve mentioned it before but I really love Sunday mornings.  It’s my favorite morning of the week.  I thought I’d document a little of our summer Sunday morning.  I have a feeling it may change in the next few years and it will be nice to remember a little slice of our quiet mornings.

Sunday mornings usually start with Ike and I waking up and heading downstairs while Nate sleeps later.  We grab the Sunday paper and plop in on the kitchen table.  And yes, it’s almost 10:00.   Life is good.  I usually don’t sleep this late but we had a busy Saturday and not much planned for Sunday.

Hydrangeas from the yard always put a smile on my face.  Especially in the morning.

Sometimes we run.  Sometimes we don’t.  Yesterday wasn’t a run day so we hit up Pinterest for a breakfast idea.  Yesterday morning’s selection was Glazed Donut Muffins.

Good choice. Good choice.

While I was mixing up the muffins, Ike and Nate catch up on some tv.  I know some bloggers are into showing their homes “as is” and it looks like a hurricane has hit.  This is our “as is”.  We are both pretty OCD.  Nate’s in denial about his condition but it’s true.  We like a tidy home.  Minus a stray dog bone and some smushed couch cushions/pillows.

Ike gets bored with the television and decides to keep a close eye on his fox.

I set the table as the muffins finish up baking.  Only the fanciest table setting at our house.

The muffins come out of the oven and get a good triple glazing.  We don’t mess around on Sunday mornings.

We read the paper.  The Food Network is on in the background.  Ike keeps a close eye on us.

After breakfast, we clean the kitchen and get on with the rest of our day. Yesterday’s “rest of the day” included some cleaning and yard work and a whole lot of wasting time on the interweb.  It was a scorcher out!

Man.  Can every morning be Sunday morning?

What do your Sunday mornings look like?  Any great breakfast recipes for us to try?  I’m running out of new stuff!  I like easy.  Nothing with vegetables.

  1. Haha, we were just talking about how much we love our Sunday mornings yesterday, too -- but husband got up and cycled 60 miles and I was at a 90 min. 105 degree yoga class! Yours sound more enjoyable, for sure ;)

  5. Very similar to ours yesterday! I cooked breakfast while John watched the French Open. Relaxing and quiet. perfect!

Oh and my hubs is pretty OCD about the house as well. Ours is always pretty tidy.

  6. Wow, that looks SO relaxing!! Although, Michelle, I have a feeling that in a few years your living room won't look like that for an "as is." ;-) Our Sunday mornings are a little more hectic with getting to church, but our Saturdays we try to just relax!! You definitely inspire me to make some delicious breakfast foods...

  8. I love Sunday mornings - If there's nothing on our schedule, I usually stay in bed as long as I can and then lounge around. Weekend mornings are my favorite. :)

We were pretty OCD this weekend - we started cleaning out some of the rooms and donating whatever we could.

  9. That's a FABULOUS Sunday morning! We do the church thing and a lot of dog-walking on nice days (she refuses to muddy her princess paws in the rain).

I've made this French toast casserole to great accolades - you make it the night before, and pop it in the oven the next day. Enjoy!

  10. My kind of Sunday morning. I used to hate Sundays because I knew I'd have to go to work the next day. Now that I don't work on Mondays, Sundays aren't so bad. Sunday morning breakfast staples in our house are chocolate chip pancakes (Brad loves to channel his 5 year old self), biscuits and gravy, and Nutella or cinnamon rolls.

  11. Can I come have a Sunday morning at your house with you? Please? I rely on you for the good breakfast ideas, my idea is Cinnamon Streusel muffins from Betty Crocker. Enjoy the clean home and quiet now! :)

  12. That sounds amazing! Most Sundays are pretty lazy and enjoyable for us... unless we had too much fun the night before, then we have headaches and queasy stomachs ;)

  14. I also wish my Sunday mornings were as relaxing as yours! My husband always picks up some bagels for breakfast, then off to church we go (sometimes ;). Sometimes we just hit the pool. Your muffins look so delicious! And I LOVE how clean your house looks. My house pretty much smells on Sundays!

  15. Why is it going to change? Are you having a baby?!?!

Clearly I am excited by this notion I have conceived...

See what I did there? ;)

  17. I love your pink hydrangeas! We are boring and eat cereal every morning of the week and then sometimes even for dinner. :P So I have no good breakfast suggestions for you.

  19. Okay, I know I've been away for a while but did I miss an announcement??? "I have a feeling it might change in the next few years". Come on now, are you holding out on me?

  20. Our little one gets up awfully early these days, so sleeping in is never an option unless we goto bed at like 9pm. We usually catch an early mass, which before we had a baby would've been unthinkable. We were late mass people. I think it's funny that Ike stays in bed longer. Our dog stares at us from 5am on until we get out of bed. If we make eye contact with him he assumes he's getting fed.

  22. I LOVE a good donut muffin. But since you already have a recipe for those, here are a few others I like: (I do freelance writing on recipes in restaurants, so it's "research" to make/eat things like this, right? Right.)

  23. That was a very mysterious little sentence you dropped there: "I have a feeling things may change..." I didn't miss that tiny little bomb you dropped.

This sounds like a blissful Sunday morning. Some day I'm going to take my kids and dump them out on the front porch until noon to wait patiently while I spend my morning exactly like this.
