So, I’m participating in this Block a Month thing over at In Color Order. Well, sort of participating.
To quote myself… “Once a month. That’s pretty low pressure. Finish a quilt top in a year. That’s about right on schedule for my normal projects. Let’s do this!”
Ummm. Yeah. I finished January's on time. I finished February's at the end of March. Follow through isn’t one of my strong points.
I have now decided that this quilt is going to be named the “I’m 30” quilt. When I snuggle up with it as a rocking old lady, I will remember that I made it in my 30th year of life. I’m using this as motivation to actually finish it in my 30th year. And beings that June is half over and I was only on February, I decided to get to work.
I now present you with March’s block.
And April’s block.
April’s pattern is my favorite so far!
I’d totally be killing this quilting thing….if it was April. At least I’m not extremely far behind now.
That would totally keep my….arm warm?
I’ve been eyeing old quilts at antique shops. Most of them sell for around $80. I can totally see why now. Quilting is no joke. My squares aren’t perfect but I can’t wait to have a quilt made by little ol’ me. I will finish this thing.
Anyone else stink at follow through? What’s the most recent thing you’ve started and failed to complete? Anyone else participating in the Block a Month?
Um Hellooooo I'm the queen of always halfway done. Just look at my stairs... not even close. It's gross.
ReplyDeleteI do love your quilt though, Good job Michelle!
Gorgeous! I'm on a dressmaking kick at the moment (haven't followed through on it too well yet though!) but plan to do a block quilt after I'm bored with that. This one looks great so I might use the tutorials when I'm ready.
ReplyDeleteI like to do my sewing in binges rather than small amounts here and there so if I did do a block a month it would end up being 12 blocks in December!
I could never have the patience or the follow through to tackle this. You are amazing for even getting this far. Arm warmer or not, I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteI know it's taking you longer than you expected but I think you should say it's because your taking your time to pick out such wonderful patterns! Everything goes together really well :)
ReplyDeletewell it is really starting to look like something and that always motivates me when it comes to sewing! :)
ReplyDeleteI love all of the fabric you have picked and how they work with eachother. I think your quilt will be wonderful. Hopefully you get to cuddle up with it on your 31st birthday!
ReplyDeletethis looks awesome! i love the April square the best too, looks like one of those old fashioned pinwheels!
ReplyDeleteGo on with your bad quilting self. The way I look at it, you have 6 months to make 8 more squares. Totally doable.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great project! I love the colors you are using :)
ReplyDeleteI loved this idea from your first mention of it - I'd be the same way though. Start off all gung-ho on track, and then fall a little behind, then just stop all together.
ReplyDeletekudos to you for picking it back up, though! You'll totally treasure this when you're older - especially now that it has a story to go with it, rather than just "I decided to make a quilt one day"
Um, no. I am most certainly not doing a block a month and I'm totally impressed that you are. Patience isn't exactly my forte, so I can't see quilting ever being my "thing." This quilt is going to be beautiful! I really like the fabrics you're using. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteApril's pattern is super pretty! I can't wait to see it when you are done!
ReplyDeleteQuilting is not my thang either. However I love to use quilts. I have a quilt my granny made when I was tiny and I use it to this day. There is something so sentimental about a quilt. I just love them! Your colors are awesome and you are a rocks tar in my book!
ReplyDeleteI love it. The colors, the patterns.. it's so charming! You'll get there. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't even get to my fabric so you are way ahead of me. I will probably just make all of the blocks in December and then never put them together.
ReplyDeletei love BOMs and I don't even mind assembling tops, it is that darn quilting that kills me. I have so many UFO tops that I just don't want to quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks so far.. i think your pinwheels are my favorite!
I have MULTIPLE quilts I've started and then never finished.... though progress of any kind is good, I've learned!
ReplyDeleteI love old quilts. I have one my Noni made that I just love. It's only for display because it's mostly white (well in my house, white things get dirty fast!) But I know how much work it is just from watching her. Good luck on finishing... before 31!!
ReplyDeleteWhen you are 30 you'll probably be at that point where you are cold all the time (you old lady) so I hope the whole thing is done by then. ;) I like the pretty colors you are using!
ReplyDeleteWhen you finish that thing, are you going to actually let anyone touch it ever? I think you should not.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for this after seeing your original post. Only two squares done on the quilt but at least my bathroom remodel is almost finished.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you have a lot of pieces left to go. Good luck finishing the entire quilt.
