Stool Debacle

The stool hunt continues.  Sad face.

Remember this poll from last week.

If you couldn’t gather, I was the one that loved the stools.  Nate hated them.

Even though Nate was the clear winner, he oh-so-willingly went with me to World Market while we were in Des Moines this past week-end.  Just to say “hi” to the stools.

I’m glad I looked at them in person.  My monitor led me astray.  I thought the metal was more aged looking and the seats were darker.  I still love the overall shape.  I just wanted them to be something that they aren’t.

Sad face.

We totally failed to seize the picture opportunity of Nate standing by the stool with a huge annoying grin on his face and a thumbs up.  But I’m sure you all can picture that.

So, the stool debacle continues.  I am still on the hunt.  Nate is still annoyed.

I also have to publicly admit that Nate has better taste in kitchen stools.  That hurts.  At least my laundry from vacation two weeks is put away.  We all have our strengths.

How do you and your spouse/significant other/roomie solve decorating debates?  What décor debacles have you recently debated?

  1. Bummer about the stools. That's what's hard about online shopping. I usually bring all the decorating options to the table and I tell Anthony to choose one. I am strategic though. I either show him only options I really like so it's win win or I show him one that I love and like 3 that are gag inducing lol! Strategy. ;)

  2. Love the stools. I am visiting from Thee Blog Hop and I am a new follower! I hope you will stop by http://www.garagesalesrus.blogspot.com/ and do the same.

  3. Bummer! I voted for the World market stools but they definitely looked different in person than they did on the computer. But at least it's not like you lost the debate and then you saw them in person and they were even cooler than the picture, that would be a serious bummer.

  4. Haha, too funny! I don't think they are ugly at all. I happen to love those stools. But, they may not be just right for the space... however, in my book, it NEVER hurts to try things and return things should you not like it. Sometimes that is the true test. And, that is how we solve our disagreements - try it. :) We've both been wrong... things can look so different in a space - especially color. I found the perfect rug (that we both liked) for the family room, but only saw it in person as it was hanging and displayed. Colors were great - brought fabrics with me to compare. In the room and on the floor, it looked like it had blue undertones. Ugh!! Back it went. But, at least we tried... sometimes it's almost impossible to know otherwise.

  5. Oh, and we use photoshop a lot - paste things into the room photo. That way, we have an idea. But, there is always that element of how it looks in the space and in person.

  6. This picture is hilarious! My husband usually leaves the decorating to me, and unless he absolutely hates it, things usually stay the way I decorate them. Good luck with your stool search...I think pottery barn has some stools like that...not 100 percent sure though....glad your trip went well, and that the dreaded vacation laundry is finally put away.

  7. Such a bummer that you didn't like them in person!
But everything happens for a reason, right? So that means that the perfect stool is still out there somewhere.
    There's other stool-fish in the sea ;)

  8. Well, my husband doesn't really care about these decisions so he leaves it up to me - unless he thinks it's weird - then he voices his opinion. I normally won't push something he hates.

  9. Bummer that they weren't great in person! If we disagree about something in our house, we err on the side of not spending money. So if we want a new "x", if we can't find a new one we both like, I have to figure out a way to fix up the one we have. We're cheap like that. :)

  11. This happens to us too. We took forever to find a couch because we could not agree on one.

  12. I'm glad you saw them in person so you wouldn't have any "what if's" about the stools. Bummer they weren't what you had imagined :-(. DIY project perhaps to age the metal, darken the seats? (sorry, Nate!)

My husband leaves all the decorating/designing up to me. He has no taste. Not even "bad" taste, just no opinion. It's good cause I get to decorate how I want, but also bad cause I can't get a 2nd opinion from him if I'm indecisive on something.

  13. Sorry the stools were a disappointment. I'm usually the home decorating decision maker. Brad throws ideas that make no sense at all. Or he'll throw out completely random projects or suggestions. I typically respond by making a face, patting him on the head, and saying "Shhh".

  14. You two crack me up! You sound like my hubs and myself. I bought at least 4 sets of bar stools before deciding on the ones we have now which are coincidentally from World Market.

  15. My husband claims he doesn't care about decorating unless it is something that he really hates...or it costs too much. He really resists any kind of change though, and if it were up to him, our whole house would look like a college dorm...

  17. This seriously made me laugh out loud! You crack me up! I find it super cool that he actually gets involved on decoration duty.
On the bright side I'm glad you checked 'em out before purchasing it...right?

  18. Sorry to hear about the stool sitch. My theory is the saddle stools are universally liked, but the WM ones require special taste and class to appreciate. So there.

  19. Ouch. That's a tough debate to lose.
My strategy is to talk about how good my choice is until I wear Chris down and he gives in just to get me to shut up.
    It usually works :)

  20. I feel your pain with the stools and being determined to find something you really, really want. Joe would get so annoyed with me when I would send him link after link of library card catalogs. To make a long story short, I eventually found some for a great price and Joe agreed that i could get them (he's a good husband). Just keep up the hunt (but don't tell Nate I said that!).

  21. I'm sorry the stools werent perfect! You will find the right ones. We don't usually argue about style because he clearly knows I am 100% more stylish than him...lol hes pretty easy going...I think until we start the decor of the mancave/basement...that is going to be a whole other ballgame!

  22. I hate when that happens. I figured you were the one that wanted the new stools. $109 is a lot for an island chair me thinks. It wasn't meant to be I guess!! ;)

  23. haha isn't it scary when husbands are right about decor things?? I love the picture of you and am sad you missed out on that photo-opp of Nate. He probably would've framed it.

Speaking of husbands, Dr. Rick likes your title about stool.
