What did I learn this week-end? I learned that my sewing machine likes to see me cry. That’s what I learned.
I did eventually manage to sew myself some darling little travel cases.
Aren’t they cute? I sewed them using a pattern from Say Yes to Hoboken. I had some issues following the instructions but I also have this amazing skill of making every sewing pattern 20 times harder than it needs to be. The fabric is really cute though. I have had the Amy Butler fabrics since forever. They make me happy.
I always like to see what products people use. I’m that girl that will search through your medicine cabinet. Yep, that’s me. So now I will take my turn at sharing.
First is the baby tote. This one will be placed in my purse. It will hold my precious Stila lip gloss. I thought I lost the strawberry one this week. I almost cried. And then I found it. And then I cried happy tears. I also have some Burt’s Bees chap stick sans wrapper, a Tide pen, and a bottle of mixed medicines in an Ibuprofen bottle. I’m a pharmacist. I know what they all look like. Plus the Tums coat the Ibuprofen and make it easier on your stomach. Trust me. I’m a doctor.
The medium size bag is for the ol’ make-up. I’m a big bare Minerals fan. It’s the only make-up I can wear without my face freaking out. I use only the fanciest eye shadows. I also love my Organic wear mascara.
The largest bag will hold all of my odds and ends stuff. As you can tell, I’m pretty high maintenance. The face gets some CeraVe lotion, Monistat Chaffing Relief Powder Gel, Bare Minerals face sunscreen, and some Avalon C anti-old lady eyes. The boy hair is currently digging Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. The Vaseline is to help prevent my inch long mole removal incision from scarring. I’ve been applying it about 6 times a day. The dermatologist asked what I was doing because they hadn’t seen an incision look as good as mine. Pharmacist for the win. (P.S. Wear sunscreen!) Of course there is deodorant and lip balm.
That’s it. My life in three bags. Now I just need to figure out what else I need to pack for Costa Rica.
What’s one product you can’t live without? Ooo, I need beach read recommendations. I would prefer funny/romance/light reads. I don’t like to tax the brain on vacation. Or make it sad.
Your little bags are so cute. Please open an Etsy shop, I know you have nothing but time. I'm still crushing on your table.
ReplyDeleteOh my. I could never sell this stuff. And I would have to be extremely medicated to spend that much time with my sewing machine. ;)
DeleteThese are so gorgeous! Sorry they made you cry!
ReplyDeleteYour sewing is freaking amazing, I love your bags!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to try out some ou your bag contents! Ps I love Vaseline. It is amazing with so many things. I love it for fixing dry heels! Slather that stuff and slip on some socks and you are good to go.
Oh I forgot, beach reads.... I just scored the Jenny Lawson/Bloggess book to take on our vacay next week. I heard it is hilarious!i have also gotten into Erin Hilldebrand books recently.
ReplyDeleteyes, you need to find a bag big enough for me. then you will be set.
ReplyDeleteAwesome bags you are so good with the sewing machine! Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteI cannot BELIEVE you made those. Lined?! With a zipper?! GET OUT. You are amazing! (Can't think of any beach reads right now, if I think of any i'll facebook it to you)
ReplyDeleteThose bags are adorable. I'm seriously impressed. I haven't quite figured out the process of adding a zipper to things yet.
ReplyDeleteBeach reads... My Mom is freaking out about a series called "Bluebells of Scotland" so you could check that out. Not sure if you liked Harry Pottery style books but if you did, then you'd like The Discovery of Witches. It's Harry Potter for adults.
Your bags make me want to cry tears of jealousy! My sewing machine likes to see me cry too...I can't seem to sew a straight line to save my soul. Maybe it's because I can't see straight through the tears.
ReplyDeleteI love your bags, and am also a member of the 'i can make anything more difficult than it needs to be' club. :)
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Karah
oh wow, these bags are awesome!! i need to take a crack at the sewing machine this weekend...i'm scared. the fabric is so cute...the little greek keys ones are my favs! and you are surprisingly high maintenance...look at all that product!! love all your stuff though, bare minerals is the best :)
ReplyDelete1) Your bags are adorable. I am jealous of your sewing skills. Zippers make me want to cry (I haven't tried yet).
ReplyDelete2) I wear SPF in my moisturizer every day. That is why I still look like I'm 12. It will be awesome when I am 90 and still look 12.
3) Some good, easy books... I love reading the Sookie Stackhouse books (they're so campy that they're fun).
You should have said you whipped up these bags in 5 minutes a piece. I totally would have believed you. Fabrics = perfection.
ReplyDeleteUmm, those are absolutely adorable. Tutorial or Sell them, please! :)
ReplyDeleteI wondered what you were up to this weekend when you posted a pic of the fabric on instagram. These are ridiculously cute. I'll definitely put these on my ever-growing list of things to sew. At the rate that I'm going I'll be able to make these for my unborn teenage daughter.
ReplyDeleteI'd recommend Jenny Lawson's (The Bloggess) book. I haven't read it yet but I'm sure it's hysterical. My best friend pre-ordered it for me as part of my Christmas gift but she had it shipped to her place in Chicago. Probably so she could read it first and give it to me a month later. Ah, friendship.
Those bags are stinking adorable! I am so impressed by all your sewing skills lately. And I'm in love with the gray and white pattern. Love love love.
ReplyDeleteI can't live without my C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Balm. Really fancy name for Bath and Body works chapstick. I honestly think my lips would shrivel up and fall off if I didn't use it. No, I'm not at all dramatic.
Your totes turned out so cute. And these would make awesome gifts, too. Since you have made them once, they've gotta be easier the next time around.
ReplyDeleteWow, you made those? Girl can sew!! I did not know you got a mole removed? Maybe I missed a post. I had one removed, and the scar looks worse than the mole did, now I know, use vaseline. I wish I can tell what kind of medicine I have when they are all mixed up. Hope your vacation is coming soon..yeay for vacations!
ReplyDeleteSee? This is exactly why I need to learn how to sew. My life gets packed in ziplocks when we vacation. :(
ReplyDeleteLove your bags! also love that you shared what is in them!! I love to make bags and things too!
ReplyDeleteJanet Evanovich books are super fun to read!
I love peeking in people's stuff too. I couldn't live w/out my Sugar tinted lip balm. Use that buttery stuff every day. Oh and my Dr. Bronner's. I'm a total convert. That stuff makes my skin ridiculously soft.
ReplyDeleteI gotta try your Vaseline trick. My scar is almost a year old but it is ugly. I hate it. I'm not sure whether to be mad at my Dr. or Mederma. Gotta blame someone.
Those are so cute! I could definitely use more organization in my giant purse of diaper bag proportions (which is weird because I have zero children)
ReplyDeletelove the totes - I'm going to finally brave an attempt with the zipper foot for this project!
ReplyDeleteMy Costa Rica must haves were: light weight rain jacket, Keens/Teva hiking sandals, water friendly, quick drying shorts and shirts (for hiking/zip lining/waterfalls), and a sweatshirt - it's surprisingly cool in some parts. And lots of cash - they take US dollars.
Have fun!!
Thanks for the recommendations!!
DeleteThe totes are adorable!!! I looovve the fabrics. I may have to attempt this one..someday.
ReplyDeleteAs for what else to take: I'd definitely recommend rain friendly outfits and some kind of hiking shoe if you plan on any adventures :)
Super cute bags!! I have to have my Burt's Bees Lip Balm too. I've been so spoiled by it. I also have my small Nivea hand cream. Target sells the little round lotion tins for a little over a buck.
ReplyDeleteAnything by Emily Griffin (if you haven't read already ) would be great light reading and keep you interested!
Have a great time!
You are a sewing WIZARD lately, woman. I love your fabric choices!
ReplyDeleteDid you use heavy duty fabric and or type that can washed. My bar minerals always spills when I travel.
ReplyDeleteEasily washed. The mess is the only negative to bare Minerals! Their newer containers are much better.
DeleteI love the totes! I need a new makeup back myself so I repinned this from you on Pinterest..though to be honest the idea of sewing anything involving a zipper sort of scares me. Eek.
ReplyDeleteAlso, BareMinerals products are the bomb.
Any of the Shopaholic books...I'm reading Mini-shopaholic right now, and it makes me laugh out loud
ReplyDeleteI'm a bare minerals girl too. Have you ever been to a bare minerals store? I visited my first one last month and it was wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute bags. I wouldn't know where to start with a pattern and sewing machine so you go girl!! Have so much fun on your vaca!!!
Also as far as books get idiot girls club by Laurie notaro. She is absolutely hilarious and it's a funny lol on the airplane kind of read!!
ReplyDeleteLove the bags! I have the same Amy Butler flowered fabric in pinks that I used to make a table runner for the dining room and in blues for a baby quilt--so cheery and versatile!
ReplyDeleteThese are all kindsa beautiful and functional and I love them. There's no way the person that made those is not best buds with her sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteThese are BEYOND adorable and I love the pop of the pink zipper and inside fabric! I really really really need to get my sewing machine out and give it a try. After law school exams are over... I'm doing it! I. Swear. Really. I. Am.
ReplyDeleteNot convincing enough? :(
These bags are really cool. i am impressed by the designs.Looking forward for more such designs.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are soo cute and would really come in handy! I just may have to pin this for later and try it :)
ReplyDeleteI realize this is an old post, but in case you still read it, what were the fabric dimensions for your three bags?
