Farmhouse Table Reveal

Nate built us a farmhouse table.  He’s so handy.  I think I’ll keep him around.  To build me more tables…

Nate used the Big Ur tutorial from Ana White.  We’ll share tomorrow the adjustments we made, the stain and poly used, things we’d do differently, etc. (Feel free to leave questions and we’ll address those as well!)

We are going to purchase two more chairs this week. The new table is a little longer than our previous table.  This extra length will allow for six chairs…which is a definite bonus!  The chairs are short…but extremely comfortable.

We ended up purchasing a new rug also because our old one did not look right.  (I really liked that rug so I’m trying to dream up a home for it.)  The new rug is from Lowe’s.  It was marked down to $59 from $75.  Sold.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our free lights from Barn Light Electric (Read about that awesomeness here.)  The lights will really help tie the kitchen and breakfast area together.  Not to mention that the whole place will go even more country, y’all.

And because we all love a good before and after….

It’s crazy how different a room can look just by switching out a table and rug.

I’m in love with the table.  I love that Nate built it and we finished it together.  The wood makes the area seem warmer…and who doesn’t love extra seating?

What do you think?  Too country?  Just right?  Any questions that you want addressed tomorrow?  Who hates us for decorating for Christmas already?

The chairs seem to slide under the table perfectly? Do they feel too short?

  12. I just painted my bathroom a similar paint color and was trying to figure out what color to paint the trim. the change in your photos helps me in my decision. Yes I despise you for Christmas decorating already, but it looks really nice.

  16. Wow! So fabulous, go you and Nate!! My lovely hubby just got me some new white Eames chairs for our dining room and even without changing the dining table it made an incredible difference! You can have a peek here if you're interested :) http://coralandcoast.blogspot.com/2011/11/birthday-surprise.html

  17. Go Nate! It looks professional! I love the contrast with the chairs! :)

(Thank God for these handy husbands, right? If I attempted building that table it would've looked like a well-intentioned Boy Scout project gone wrong. Horribly wrong. I may or may not have left with all limbs intact.)

And if the radio is allowed to play Christmas music, you're certainly allowed to start decorating. :)

  27. I love the country feel of the table and the room. Looks like a completely different kitchen and all you changed was the tablet and rug = inexpensive way to redesign a room. I actually want to make a table out of old barn wood someday.

  29. That table is stunning and the chairs look amazing with it. Can I borrow Nate?! You have me worried about what to do with my table now! We found an old table and bench set at a charity shop and I'm in the process of restoring it's hideen beauty (it's ugly as hell at the mo). I was going to stain it Jasmine White as I didn't want the room to look too dark, but now I've seen yours I'm wondering whether a natural wood stain would be better! Oh dear.....

  47. Love it! We're enjoying our farmhouse table, too, built by my handy husband in December. We had a tiny four-top round table that seemed to take up more space in the dining room than our six-foot rectangular table. It just goes to show how the right piece can really make a space!
