Cowl Complete

I have this bad habit of starting something and then never finishing it.  I like to try different things to see if I can do them.  Once I realize that I can do them, I get bored and quit.

Not this week.  I am super proud of myself for completing the Crochet Along hosted by the lovely Rachel over at Maybe Matilda.  Not only did I complete the project but I completed it on time…as in I finished it yesterday.  I’m amazing. And totally not a procrastinator.

Rachel gave great step-by-step directions to walk us through the cowl making process.  (We used this pattern.  You can start your own cowl here.)

Want to see my cowl?  Of course you do.  Please remember that these photos were taken at 8:30 last night after an 8 hour shift where I was verbally abused for about 7.92 of those 8 hours…and I’m horribly awkward in front of the camera…

At first I didn’t think think cowls were my thing but my inner 80 year old self is actually kind of digging them.  I initially used this crochet along as a good excuse to make myself sit down and learn to crochet.  Turns out I like cowls.  Who knew?

I have to watch my precious cowl though. Someone else in my house is loving it….

Guess I need to whip him up one of his own.  He’s requested a color that brings out his eyes.  Diva.  (The things I do to this poor dog.)

Be sure to head over to Maybe Matilda and check out all of the participants.  There is even a contest for the best cowl.  I’d love your vote but the competition is pretty impressive.  I’d take a “Yay.  You actually finished a crochet project.” vote!

After you’re done doing that, you should check out the rest of Rachel’s blog.  She’s super talented but more importantly, she kills me.  What can I say?  I like funny bloggers.  Also be sure to check out her Etsy shop which is full of great crochet patterns and beautiful hats, headbands, etc.  You can buy your own cowl and tell all of your friends you made it.  I won’t tell.

Have you tried to crochet or knit?  Or is it too elderly for you?  Anyone else have a bad habit of starting things and not finishing them?  Who thinks Rachel rocks that pixie cut like nobody’s business?

  1. You and Ike both look fabulous. And you are so darn cute. Even after being verbally assaulted for 7.92 hours. Seriously? Who do I need to beat up?

Great work on the cowl! Wasn't crocheting relaxing? I like doing it at night in fromt of the tv. =)

  2. You're totally rocking that cowl! (Ike, too.) I love the color.

Yeah, I was totally that person that starts something and doesn't finish it with this project. I bought the yarn and crochet hook... and stopped there. Crochet Along fail.

  3. Okay, the dog is totally rockin' that cowl! (You look great in it too, but I'd have to say the dog squeaks ahead by the adorableness of a dog wearing a cowl.)

  4. Very cute! You and Ike totally rock the cowl.

Crocheting has always been on my to-learn list, but I've never gotten around to teaching myself...

  5. Cute!
I crochet, but I have the same problem. Start things and never finish them :)

  6. Super impressed. That color is great!! My sweet grandma tried to teach me how to crochet back in the day but I never had the patience for it. And now I have a dear friend who is like the croquet goddess, so I use her for her talents. I'm a good friend. ;)

Awesome job! I'm gonna vote for you. Consider it a virtual high-five.

  7. Oooh so cute! I'm especially digging that sassy hairdo of yours. Trade hair with me please? Just for... ten years?

  8. Yay! You did it! I love your cowl (it looks particularly smashing on Ike), but I also really love your hair. Funny you should mention mine, because my husband has me convinced I should grow it back out (as evidenced by the awkward hair length in my picture wearing my cowl), so I'm making your hair my goal for now. And you thought crochet/cowls were for grannies? You might be right, but we are just ahead of the curve, my friend. Let's call it maturity.

    Anyway, great job!

  10. I learned how to knit about 2 years ago. I finished one incredibly itchy scarf, started another, then started a poncho for my niece. Aaand never finished it and she's 13 months now. I started when I found out my sister-in-law was pregnant. Oops

  12. I really like that color! And it looks good on you too. I sort of envy your ability to look so happy after an 8 hour shift...go you!!

And Ike; as always, looks so super adorable. I think a nice charcoal grey one or maybe a nice shade of blue would be great for him!! =D

  13. Great job on the cowl! It looks cute on your pup!

I agree that Rachel is hilarious. I love her blog.

Verbally abused for 7 hours? Where do you WORK???

  14. Oh, crocheting. I tried it once with the intention of making a baby blanket. My mom ended up with a really nice potholder. :-P I am impressed with anyone who knows how to work those needles...I wouldn't have a clue! I love the color you chose for your granny cowl. ;)

  18. Too funny. I was in H&M this aft and saw a person wearing a really cool cowl and I thought I needed to get one. Maybe I need to MAKE one huh? Looks amazing!!

  19. I want one! Love the color and it looks great on you (and Ike). I'm a knitter, but have never tried crocheting. Maybe one of these days when I don't have so much on my plate I'll have to give it a shot.

  22. Cowl is such a weird word. I tried to crochet a small square once (my nana crochets nonstop so she tried to teach me),I made a giant ball of string! Woo, uncoordination for the win!

  23. Love that cowl!! Too cute on the dog! :))

  24. Ugh, I've been working on a herringbone cowl since last winter and it's only about a quarter finished. Just too many other projects, maybe I should be working on it now instead of readying blogs ;)

  25. Kudos - whenever I try to knit or crochet I end up tangled in yarn and swearing ;) looks amazing!
