You learn a lot about your personal tastes when you build two houses. You learn what you like and what you don’t like. I think this is best demonstrated in our kitchens.
Meet our old kitchen….
Kind of looks like our current kitchen’s…less attractive step-sister??
As you can tell, we used a lot of the same elements in our current kitchen that we used in our first kitchen….white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, kitchen island, green wall color, and wood floors. We liked most of the features of our first kitchen so we used it as inspiration in our second.
Some people might call using the same elements “boring.” We call it “doing what works” with a little upgrading.
We did upgrade to granite countertops (versus laminate), toned down the wall color, and added more cabinets. Our current cabinets have crown molding to fancy them up. The bar height island allows for additional seating. The floors are a darker cherry versus the honey oak.
Do you think just “upgrading” a kitchen is boring or are you a fan of doing what works? Do you have any “clones” from a first house to second?
Nope, nothing wrong with sticking to what you like! Your new kitchen looks pretty fantastic to me!
ReplyDeleteHey, you don't fix what ain't broken! I love both kitchens!
ReplyDeleteI definitely think doing what works is the way to go!! If you know you like something, doing some upgrades to make it better is great! I think your first kitchen was very nice and the second even nicer, but they definitely have the same tone and your taste is wonderful!! I am a changer, but once I really like something I stick with it, I just look for ways to make it better!
ReplyDeleteOur kitchen now is an upgraded clone of our condo kitchen (colorwise, the layout is totally different)! We had remodeled it 2 years before moving so our tastes hadn't changed! We went from laminate to Corian and got nicer stainless appliances.
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle- thanks so much for stopping by my blog! It's great to meet you! I love your kitchen- totally fell for it when I saw it featured on The Flipping Couple. We are still on our first home, but I feel like I would do the same thing, replicate the "good" parts of our remodels and learn from them. =)
ReplyDeleteIf it works...stick with it. Your first kitchen was lovely, as is your second. In our case, our kitchen was HID.E.OUS. Looks completely different now, just because it now matches my impeccable taste. ;-) Actually it wouldn't have been difficult AT ALL to make it better looking than it was. LOL I love the green color of your walls...and the white cabinets...and stainless steel...oh I love it all. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I love your current kitchen!! It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love the kitchen in your second house so much better, though I can see the similarities. I love the green with the white cabinets. It's so funny, the first house has the exact countertop that we have. I didn't like it at first, but now that there's teal, aqua, green everywhere I'm excited to incorporate it into my color scheme. I would love to upgrade, but I'll wait until we get a bigger place.
