The Hamptons of the Midwest

Thanks to my guest bloggers for holding down the fort last week while I was hanging out in Miller Beach, IN….

Miller Beach 126

The house was very unique.  6 floors total.  The kitchen was beautiful…

Miller Beach on the other hand….not quite the Hamptons.  We wouldn’t recommend the location as a destination for your next vacation (not the safest town, had to travel 20 minutes to decent restaurants/shopping, not the safest town)…but we enjoyed our family bonding and beach time!

The views from the house were impressive…

Miller Beach 037

You could see the Chicago sky-line from the top deck…

Miller Beach 198

The sunset on Lake Michigan was great for pondering life…

Miller Beach 102

and posing with the love of your life….who was DISGUSTING from sand volleyball (we’re closet pros…ask the fam)…but look at that sunset…

Miller Beach 109

Who doesn’t love bonding with their Kindle in a hammock? (P.S. Black Heels to Tractor Wheels and Bossypants….great beach reads!)

Miller Beach 163

Ike had a rough start to vacation….barfing in the car while stuck in Chicago traffic (awesome) and a near death experience falling down some deck stairs (I can never have human children)…but things started to look up after a good run with his cousin…

Miller Beach 181

We also hung out with some cute kids….oh yeah, and their parents…

Have you taken a vacation with the whole family? Did you survive?  Where’s your favorite place travel with the family?

I cleaned up the side bar a little bit yesterday.  You will now find fancy buttons at the top of the blog that better enable you to stalk us on multiple social media sites.  We included a link to our recently opened Flickr account…for those of you who can’t get enough of our vacation photos…and to save the rest of you from having to view them on the blog!

  1. Your family trip sounds fun. I've never seen a beach on Lake Michigan nor a Lake Michigan sunset.

  3. Welcome back! Looks like you had a great vacation :)
We've been trying to plan a family vacation for the last 5 years. Next summer...

  4. You were vacationing in my neck-of-the-woods! Well, where I grew up... but go about 40 miles East. :) If Miller Beach is where I think it is, yeah, it really isn't the safest place on Lake Michigan. Next time head further East. :) Glad you enjoyed the views, beach, and company though! Aren't the sunsets amazing? I miss them.

Every year, our group of friends spend the weekend at our friend's family's lake house in Lakeside, MI. We're headed up there in a couple weeks.

  6. Welcome back! That house looks amazing. Glad Ike is OK. :( We went to Disneyworld 2 summers ago with my parents and sister and Rick's parents and sisters. We had SO much fun. We wanted to do it again this summer, but Rick had this little thing called A New Job. :)

  7. Welcome back!! We've done family vacations twice - one to Florida with my family and one to Boston with Nick's entire family. Fun for sure, but we've realized that we all have pretty different travel styles. : ) We usually head up to a lake house with my family every summer for a weekend and that has been an absolute blast. Ahhh, vacation.

  8. Welcome home! Glad Ike is OK, and you all stayed safe. Is his cousin a Wheaten? He sure looks like Ted when he's fluffy =) Did you love Bossypants? I swear I cracked up the ENTIRE time I was reading. And we started planning a cruise to Alaska for next summer - we're excited!

  9. It looks like you had a wonderful time! That shot of the Chicago sky-line is so beautiful AND THOSE SUNSETS! I laughed out loud at the photo of Ike running with his bud. I'm glad he's okay after falling down the stairs!

    P.S. That house is...uh...AMAZING! :)

  10. Oh no! Poor Ike. Road trips are hard on dogs. Ours used to puke on every road trip we took as a kid ha. Glad you enjoyed it regardless of the questionable location!

  11. It may not have been the safest place, but you make it look very beautiful and worth a bit of risk.

  13. Welcome Back! You were missed. I liked the guest posts, but you're fairly new to me so I've been enjoying your posts. Maybe one of these days I'll need a break from you and the guests will be needed. Ha Ha. Glad you had a good time despite the location. Ike looks like he was having fun with his friend. We're going to the San Juan Islands next weekend to visit family so that should be fun.

  16. So cool, you were really close to me! I live about 15 miles south of Miller (in a much safer area) and work about 2 miles west closer to downtown Gary, IN (an equally, if not more, unsafe area).

I never actually realized there were places that nice in Miller, haha. The only restaurant I know of in that area is Miller's Pizza. It's true, though- you really have to make a hike for food and entertainment.

  17. Jealous! We were just on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan last weekend. We spent a significant amount of time on the beach trying to find people who wanted to play some sand volleyball with us - too bad you were just oh, a few hundred miles across the lake from us. :)

  18. Ohhh.. Ike's cousin looks like a wheaten (I have an almost 2 year old)! Seems like terriers run in your family. ;)

  19. For example, I want to lose 5 pounds of fat
by February 25th. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to
find that "quick fix" or magic solution that would have allowed me to drop the desired pounds and
have the perfect body. The problem is that many do not
follow through with their fitness plans and thus fail within the first 3 months of starting a new fitness plan or
    routine.

  21. Take a look at your schedule and come of with solutions
ahead of time for lunches and dinners out, this will give you a game plan to follow.
You could always join a fitness related group on Facebook, though.
Yet, before you can get to this point, you first have to make a start.

  22. Here again you want to find or even create an angle or slant in which
you can take headline news and 'incorporate' it into a post you are composing.
Also, find one that has includes videos explaining the latest news
because that is sometimes the best way to see it.

Every now and then, new stars emerge and disappear in
the blink of an eye and every smallest detail about the same
    becomes important celebrity news.

  24. You're so cool! I do not believe I've truly read through a single thing like that before.

So wonderful to discover someone with a few original thoughts on this topic.

Seriously.. thanks for starting this up. This web site is something that
is needed on the web, someone with a little originality!
