One day of our recent vacation was spent in Chicago. We both love Chicago. The architecture, the food, the shopping…what’s not to love?…
I want to move to Chicago for one month. I’m sure I’d miss my cornfields after that…and have $0 left to my name. Why?…..the food…and the shopping….at least observing the architecture is free…
I talked Nate into stopping at the multiple stories of wonderfulness that is the Crate and Barrel on Michigan Ave. He willingly obliged…because they had air conditioning and it was 1 billion degrees outside…and he made the stipulation that whatever I bought…I had to carry home on the train…
He had fun. I swear.
I loved this Lyle Side Chair…for our kitchen eating area…with the District Dining Table. Nate liked the added benefit of fart holes in the seat. This is when I began to laugh hysterically and a saleswoman came to kick us out of the store see if we needed assistance. The heat was definitely getting to us. Needless to say, we went home empty handed.
We also made the rounds to some of our favorite touristy spots in the city…
The Field Museum…
The Field Museum is packed full of information…like the evolution of my awesome posture…
The Cloud Gate…
The spitting faces…
And Buckingham Fountain…
We are thinking about heading back later this fall to further enjoy the wonderfulness that is Chicago….minus the profuse sweating…
Have you been to Chicago? What’s your favorite restaurant? tourist trap? museum? etc.
And for you non-Chicago fans…what are you loving at Crate and Barrel these days?
Never been but I think I'd love it there!! What type of lens did you use for the first and last photos?
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit Chicago!
ReplyDeleteSo far, I´ve only traveled to NY twice, but I realy want to know a lot of other cities!
(And I love shopping, so Chicago is a good option ;)

We went in April and it was great! We visited just about everything you mentioned (with the exception of the farting chair--missed that one). :)
ReplyDelete@The Monogrammed Mrs.- We just used our point and shoot (Nikon CoolPix) for these photos. We're not big fans of the CoolPix.
ReplyDeletelol @ your fart chair. That is totally something that would get my husband excited about furniture buying. Looks like you guys had a great time!
ReplyDeleteHa! Fart chair! What a handy little piece that would be. And I love the evolution of your posture. And your dress (hopefully you got less weird stares for wearing a dress in Chicago than in the QC!)--it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love Chicago! i lived there for 11 months and I loved the city! I have only walked around down town once though (go figure!) but I loved it!
ReplyDeletelove your pictures! we need a girls weekend there sometime! I want to go to the aquarium next time I go! melissa
ReplyDeleteWe love Chicago. Adore it. I'd love to move there too, but have the same problem as you - I'd be broke and living on the street in no time.
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents live there, so in college we'd load up a car with a bunch of friends and go stay with my grandma for a weekend. Tour the city, eat lots of home cooked food...pretty great all around. : )
I've never been to chicago, well I've been the ariport but not the city... even though we only live about 5 hours away from it :( That's sad of us. I'd love to go and see wicked though! And eat lots of pizza.
ReplyDeleteWe've always wanted to go to Chi-town. And we may head there in the spring? It looks super fun - love the pics!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Fart holes?!?!?! That's totally something Eric would say! LMAO! Looks like you guys had fun! We've never been to Chicago, but would absolutely LOVE to go!
ReplyDeletePS- that dress is adorable!
My visits to Chicago have never looked this good.
ReplyDeleteThe 12 year old boy inside of me is still laughing at the fart holes in the chair.
I went to Chicago a few times when I was young but don't really remember. The last time I went was a few summers ago and I only went for a day to visit my sis at the Art Institute! I saw the spitting faces, the Bean, Buckingham fountain, etc. I really enjoyed the Bean, it was fun to take pictures and people watch! I only ate at one restaurant....Miller's Pub. It was pretty good!
ReplyDeleteHi Love the pics of Chicago and I feel like I have learned something new. The water going thru the city - all the tourist shots I have seen have never shown this. In order for me to fall in love with a city it has to have water and this river going thru the middle of all the concrete is just awesome. Being from close to Vancouver BC Canada where I am surrounded by water its a huge requirement. Now I'll have to add Chicago to my list. Thanks for the beautiful and educational shots. Sheri
ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeleteYou always crack me up (or maybe it was your husband this time) and of course I'm at work. I've never been to Chicago, but would love to go just to see the great architecture. I'll take your advice and go during the Fall instead of summer.
I love Chicago! My best friend lives there so I go up as often as possible.
ReplyDeleteNext time you're up there, check out Hub 51 and Ben Pao. Great restaurants! And definitely head to the Signature Room on the 96th floor of the Hancock Building for cocktails.
I love the Crate & Barrel on Michigan Avenue, and don't even get me started on those chairs. Jen and I have been swooning over them since our Chicago trip in April.
ReplyDeleteWe go to Chicago for Bears games, but not a ton of other things. It's a fun place to be around the holidays.
I was in Chicago a few months ago and went to Rick Bayless' restaurant, Xoco. It was so good, I'm a big fan of his and want to go to one of his other restaurants next time I'm in Chicago. Definitely the highlight of my trip.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I worked at the Field Museum for a summer. All their behind the scenes stuff and storage are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe fart holes comment totally cracked me up. That's something my husband would say :)
ReplyDeleteI was in Chicago about seven years ago for a night on a drive cross country. We took one of those boat tours. So much fun!
Ok, you've convinced me. If I ever make it to the States again, Chicago will be on my list of places to visit.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Chicago for 2 years two years ago. I love breakfast at Yolk on Michigan Ave., amazing cupcakes at Sweet Mandy B's in Lincoln Park, Scooter's custard, and great (most importantly CHEAP) burgers/hot dogs at Portillo's downtown. Obviously I mostly ate those 2 years, but I love Chicago. The vibe of the whole city is wonderful.
ReplyDeletei have wanted to go to Chicago forever! mainly for the food, but all those sights you posted look awesome too!
ReplyDeleteBeing from just an hour south of the city I have some food suggestions for you!
ReplyDeleteYou have to go to Yolk for breakfast!
And if you like italian go to the Italian VIllage, or the original Maggianos
mmmm there are so many delish places!
I've never been to the Windy City, but any place with C&B is good in my book! (c: I got a good laugh out of your version of the evolution of man...pure awesomeness (c:
ReplyDeleteP.S. by the time you read this you will probably be at 300 followers, YOU ROCK! (c: Congrats!
I lived in Chicago for a month during medical school. I loved it. Granted, my pocketbook didn't. :) But it was a fabulous experience!
