French Toast and Berry Butter

I have a new obsession.  It’s called The Pioneer Woman.  I just recently discovered her site.  Yes, I have been living in a cave…or Iowa.  We’re a little behind on cool stuff here…

One of the first posts I read was a recipe for berry butter…

It looked delicious.  I knew I had Nate had to make this for us.  Actually, I made the butter.  Nate made the French toast.  We are a dynamic kitchen duo (that’s for my brother…he hates when I write cheesy crap).

We followed the recipe exactly.  And it was delicious.  And pretty.  You could totally trick people into thinking you slaved away on a beautiful breakfast with this recipe…and it’s easy.  I mean, I made the pretty butter.  I almost didn’t post this so my secret wouldn’t be out…

Nate usually makes French toast with the whole egg but he just used the yolk (as suggested) and now we won’t go back.  No crusty, eggy tasting French toast for us.  Bring on the cholesterol.

Although our final product isn’t quite as pretty as Pioneer Woman’s, it was still quite tasty…

She suggested adding powdered sugar and we might try that next time…only because we like our sugar.  Sugar. Sugar. Sugar.

What’s your favorite French toast topping?  I am usually a strictly peanut butter and syrup girl but this recipe is giving my peanut butter a run for it’s money!

And on a totally unrelated note…who’s watching Big Brother?  Do you like when they bring previous contestants back?  I’m not a fan but I’ll keep watching…

Anddddddd my blog buddy, Mindy, over at Finding Silver Linings has just opened an Etsy site full of cute brooches and headbands….and she is having a giveaway….enter here!!

  1. I LOVE Dark Karo syrup on my French Toast (made with my grandmas homemade bread). IT is so thick and lucious and just oozes into every nook and cranny.
I am also partial to melted peanut butter with a drizzle of honey.

As for Big Brother, i am not impressed this year yet. I really don't like the contestants and am losing interest.

  2. I discovered Ree (The Pioneer Woman) in November & have been obsessed ever since. She was one of the 1st blogs on my blogroll.. Ummmmm, I can't believe you MADE that berry butter! It looks like it came from some fancypant bistro. I usually use butter and amber agave nectar on french toast.

Thanks for the link love, Pretty!

  3. Wow that looks deeee-lish! I haven't had French toast since I was a kid. May have to treat myself this weekend :)

  4. i think it looks delicious--berry butter, may have to try this one :) and guess what--im behind you, you were the first to mention the pioneer woman to me, are cool!!! my husband loves peanut butter as well, i like butter, powder sugar, lemon juice, and a little syrup! hmm. we had pancakes last night for dinner and this is making me want to make french toast now for breakfast!! wonder if my hubs would mind? hehe :)

  5. First off I have to say that you have stolen my little sarcastic and pesty heart with your humor, you have me my first good chuckle of the day! Second, this looks AMAZING...and I definitely need to have my hubby make it, ha! Third, I just became your 280th because we should be friends (c;

  6. Behind the times? In Iowa? No way. Not possible. Your french toast looks deeeeeeelicious! I've never heard of using just yolks . . . I'll have to try that out. Mmmm :-)

  7. That looks amazing! I have loved all the PW recipes I have tried and I think this one is going to have to make the list. Hopefully it tastes as half as good as it looks!

  8. French toast is my absolute favorite and I didn't think it could get any better. But it just did. Thank you, thank you very much.

  9. Oooh that butter looks very fancy! I'm always too afraid to try PW recipes. I'm a bit of a hermit when it comes to recipe trying. I was scarred for life after trying to make cheddar broccoli soup once... it worked well as a glue though :( Kudos to you! I am impressed!

  10. The Pioneer Woman is THE BOMB DIGGITY. Your french toast looks awesome! We have yet to use one of her delicious recipes. Oh. The shame.

  11. If it's really as easy as you make it sound, I'm totally trying it! And there's a pill for that cholesterol thing...but of course, you knew that. :)

  12. P-Dubs is my fav!! I got my mom her cookbook for xmas, the both of us read her daily. this recipe looks delish!

  13. Oh that looks amazing! I don't need to see it at 10 pm, just looking at it makes me feel fat.

  14. This looks completely dangerous and terrible and I'm trying it immediately.

  15. this looks absolutely delicious!! Just discovered your blog and having a fun time strolling through :)

  16. Do you have a spam problem on this blog; I also am a blogger,
and I was wondering your situation; many of us have developed some nice
procedures and we are looking to swap techniques with other folks,
be sure to shoot me an email if interested.
