I really thought I was done buying rugs but the other night I came up with the brilliant idea that our guest bathroom needed a runner. Nate loves my brilliant ideas. He's so happy he married a genius.
The guest bath is long and narrow. Perfect for a runner…
The walls will be painted Valspar’s Gravity (same as the guest bedroom). I did decide on a plain white shower curtain…because I want the rug to do the talking.
I was doing some on-line browsing and found some decent options on RugsUSA. Has anyone purchased from them? I had a bad rug experience with Overstock so I’m hesitant about ordering from them. Doesn’t mean I won’t…just hesitant. My options for purchasing a runner in a store in the area are VERY limited so on-line will probably be my best bet.
I had originally considered DIYing a chevron runner (like 100 other bloggers) but I don’t have an IKEA close and all of the runners I have found around the area are still pretty pricey for a plain runner that I could potentially ruin with paint. The option isn’t out but at this point, I think I would prefer to purchase something. Gotta make those long hours in the pharmacy good for something, right?
Ike and I want your opinions because we are the most indecisive pair….and we love a good survey..seriously, I'm that weirdo that fills out every survey that comes in the mail...
Boardwalk Stripes: Yellow or Black
Damask: Red or Black
Zebra Print: Black or Grey
I’m also open to suggestions….especially if anyone knows where I can find a chevron runner. I really don’t want to spend more than $120-130…I don’t even really want to spend that, so the cheaper the better!
Let me hear your thoughts! Or should I just stick to good ol’ bath rugs and call it a day? Is a runner weird in a bathroom? Do share!
Great rugs! I voted Damask Black. I feel your pain with no IKEA around. I saw Shelly's chevron painted Chevron rug and it's all I can think about! LOL! Did you check IKEA on line? I know their shipping is expensive with furniture but maybe not for rigs. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI love the stripes, i think they are a classic choice that is both trendy and timeless.
ReplyDeleteI love the grey zebra! LOOOOVE! I don't know if it's the best choice for a room that you want the rug to be the focal piece thoug (since it will blend in with all the grey). What about a blue zebra rug? That would be to die for! http://www.homedecorators.com/detail.php?parentid=34675&aid=froogle&CAWELAID=81083357
ReplyDeleteI vote that =)
I voted grey zebra! I love the concept of a runner, but stay away from paint. I'm not sure a guest would want paint under their feet when they wake up to use the bathroom in the morning?
ReplyDeleteI am OBSESSED with anything Damask these days especially the black and white! So thats my vote!
ReplyDeleteI voted black and white stripes, but the black and white damask was a close second. It's going to be beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI voted for the red Damask, but I'm also partial to the yellow runner. Not that I love yellow, but it seems like a punch of color other than black would look great.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like them all. (What a help I am!) I really like the idea of a runner, though. That's our plan for the kitchen, too.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how you like Rug USA.
i voted black zebra! i love the grey zebra best, but think it will be too much with grey walls.
ReplyDeleteZEBRA GREY!!!! I think a runner would look perfect in here. Do it!
ReplyDeleteI think a runner would look awesome. I'm all about color lately so I'd be searching for something bright. I saw a tutorial not long ago where someone took a cream/white runner and used tape and fabric paint to make it a chevron pattern - it turned out well.
ReplyDeleteOk, I normally love what you do for design....but I'm not sure about an expensive rug for the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteWhat type/material of rug are you thinking of getting? I would suggest something with the rubber backer attached (slippery when wet w/rug slipping beneath you getting outta the shower is no bueno).
Also, I would prob. stick to cotton for bathroom (I would be afraid a wool rug would smell too much like wet dog?). I would also want something that is 100% machine washable.
They do sell longer vanity bath mats for the bathroom: perhaps something like http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=17763202&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=shopping
I know this one is neutral/boring...but perhaps you'd consider an awesome fabric shower curtain in a damask print! (I love the damask idea for the bathroom).....and bright yellow accessories (candles, bathsoaps, etc.) as pops of colors.
I'd love to see what you end up with!
I love the black and white stripes! I have been desperately trying to find somewhere in my house to add a black and white stripe rug. If you choose that I can just live vicariously through you. Good luck, I too wish they weren't as expensive as they are.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a runner :) One of my readers loves RugsUSA, and I really like all the choices, but I might try to DIY one (I sort of agree with Heart & Haven about the expensive rug in the bathroom). If you don't like the painting route, I recently saw a DIY rug that used fabric and a rug pag on High-Heeled Foot In the Door.
ReplyDeleteI think a runner is a fab idea. And I voted yellow - I'm obsessed with the color, plus it looks delicious with grey. Can't wait to see what you choose!
ReplyDeleteI love black and white stripes so I went with that one. Have you looked into Ballard Designs? They have some indoor outdoor ones that might work in the bathroom. I have an indoor outdoor one from them under my kitchen table and it has held up really well. Also, Dash and Lambert have some awesome ones and I know they have lot of black and white ones to choose from. I have a tan and white one in my downstairs bath that I just love! Hope that helps!

Oh - I meant, Dash and Albert (not Lambert)! Ooops!

Love both the zebra prints, but the black will stand out more than the gray, since your walls will already be gray. And no, it's totally fine to have a runner in the bathroom ;)
ReplyDeleteI've had nothing but positive experiences with Rugs USA with the following caveat: it can sometimes take a long time to receive your order. I've purchased from them a few times and sometimes I get my order quickly and sometimes not so quickly but I've always been satisfied with the quality/price ratio.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you on Overstock;
all of my experiences have been very negative.
My vote is for the red damask.
Also, have you considered outdoor rugs? They should handle the water better than a conventional rug and look so much better now.
So I voted for the black boardwalk, but really it was a tie with the gray zebra. Really, I like them all. You have great taste :)
ReplyDeleteI've never purchased anything from this website, but it caught my eye when someone mentioned it on another blog because the rugs are fairly inexpensive (compared to other places).

That said, I am sure your brilliance and genius-ness (pretty sure that's not a word) will find you something. :)
Grey zebra! I just got a zebra rug for our living room...see my post today...from Walmart and I am sooo in love with it! I like the yellow stripes too.
