Do you know what I love about living in Iowa? It’s totally the weather…oh wait…
It was 90+ degrees yesterday. It was 45 last week. I LOVE the heat….but I also love spring. We haven't seen much of spring yet and I would like to enjoy a few 70 degree/low humidity days before we head into the dog days of summer….Ike is all about the dog days of summer…he missed sunbathing…
It was so nice out that we decided to FINALLY bring out the deck furniture. Our furniture is from the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot (aka inexpensive). We purchased it last year. We both love it. The furniture is super comfortable and is the perfect size for our space.
The deck is our favorite summer hang out spot. It’s like adding a whole other room to our house. We love the tree house feel that it has.
We are creatures of habit and the deck definitely plays a role in our nightly routine. We get home from work, eat, walk 3 miles, and then sit on the deck until it’s dark. Nate plays on his phone. I read. We occasionally talk to each other (what?, we just went on a 3 mile walk together). It’s a fabulous way to end the work day!
Here’s the view from the comfiest seat on the deck…the loveseat…
When building the deck we decided not to have stairs to the patio below. We did this for two reasons. Reason #1, the dog. We had to use a baby gate to keep the dog on the deck at our first house. Neither of us was really digging that for this house. Reason #2, I’m paranoid and didn’t like the idea of someone coming up the back of my house at night. The things we do for my craziness…and this guy…
And I hate to admit it…but I was the one who decided to turn on the ceiling fans when I got home last night. It was painful. It seriously hurt my ego me a lot. All of my pretty chandelier/fan destroying dreams came crashing down into tiny pieces….and then the room was cooler…and Nate gave me that “I told you so” look that I love so much. I actually hate this fan the least of any ceiling fan. It’s called the Dragonfly. I don’t remember who makes it. I just liked the name.
How are you preparing for spring/summer? Do you have a favorite spring/summer hangout?

I'd love some spring please! Especially if I had a deck like yours. But I will be waiting for a long time, it seems it is the beginning of winter over here.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Deck! I will have to check out Home Depot for outside furniture, our current table is rusting and I only have three chairs (with I obtained dumpster diving). I think we owe ourselves a new set! We have the same weather here in Ohio, It was cold this weekend, and been in the 80's the past two days! Have a great day!

I love your deck! I just put out our deck furniture this weekend now that the weather is getting consistently nice! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who apparently missed spring in Iowa completely. I think maybe spring happened from, like, 2-2:30 last Tuesday or something, and now it's summer. I don't get it. But I love your deck! Maybe if spring decides to stick around for more than 30 minutes this year you can get some time to actually enjoy it!

Yeah...same thing here. I love Spring. I'd like to actually experience it! But I don't think that's going to happen this year. Still, I'll take 90* over 30*. BRING IT ON, SUMMER!
ReplyDeleteAlso? Totally love your deck furniture. We need some outdoor furniture but I'm too indecisive to actually pick something out. Haha!
Also - do you bring your cushions in every time it rains? Or how do they hold up to weather?
What a great deck. That is so smart to not add stairs for both the reasons you mentioned. Isn't it stupid that we automatically think we must. I would never have considered not doing it but it does make life with a wandering dog so much easier.
ReplyDeleteHehe. Love your doggy! Your deck looks so welcoming :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOkay I just saw this picture of your deck and had to immediately go outside and rearrange my furniture a bit! I like how you have the couch kitty-cornered.....and I desperately need a table so thanks for the recommendation of this Martha Stewart line. I'll check it out at HD!
ReplyDeleteYour pup is a cutie by the way.
I'm so ready to pull the patio furniture out!
ReplyDeleteI WISH it was warm enough here to turn our fans on. Can you believe it is the middle of May and I'm wearing a wool sweater? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that is a great patio set. We're on the hunt for a outdoor loveseat. I'll have to take a look next time we're at HD.
i love your furniture, the cushions are my favorite part!
ReplyDeleteand walk 3 miles a day? that's fantastic, good for you!!
Thank you all for your comments!! They get me through the work day!
ReplyDelete@Cindy- We leave the cushions out all of the time. I was REALLY nervous about leaving them out in the rain but they weathered well all last summer!!
You have a beautiful deck!
ReplyDeleteI live in the South and it is already 95 degrees so we are trying to stay inside where it's nice and cool.
I love the second pic of Ike. He looks so cute....and innocent! Sorry I missed your call tonight. I forgot to take my phone out of my purse and I can't actually hear my phone when I'm in the other room and it's buried at the bottom of my purse. We will catch each other soon. In the mean time, I plan to email you. It may take me a minute (a week) but I WILL do it. :o)
ReplyDeleteI turned my air on last night?! We were sweating, it was 82 in the house. Where did our Spring go???
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous deck! We are finally getting spring in NJ but now my poor 7 year old son is really suffering with his allergies!

What a nice deck! Our deck is one floor up, but we have stairs.Sounds like you enjoy your outdoor space!
ReplyDeleteNice deck. Ours used to have that tree house feel. It was surrounded by trees and they had to be cut down for the sunroom addition. Thanks for joining the party. cute dog
