Craft Room Organization

I’m still working on my craft room.  Life keeps getting in the way of me finishing projects.  Pesky job.  Pesky dirty floors.  Pesky being an adult.

When I started my craft room, I cleared everything out and placed it in the spare bedroom across the hall. It looked like this.  At it’s best. And that’s just fabric. Oy.  There was more crafting junk on the other side of the room.

I decided that I should get to cleaning that mess up.  It was time.  My hoarding ways were catching up with me.

I started with the fabric.  Kim (NewlyWoodwards) is a genius and she gave me some comic book boards to see if they would help me get organized.  I liked them so much that I bought more (from Amazon) and got to work.

I can now easily see what types of fabric I have.  The tubs are easy to transport and store nicely in the closet.  It’s not the most adorable blogland storage solution but it’s super practical (and inexpensive).

Remember this darling green buffet and button art?

I was originally going to use the buffet to store fabric.  I was, however, concerned about the fabric starting to smell like old furniture so I put the kabosh on that idea and decided to use it to store other crafting supplies.

The top drawers hold paper items and sewing accessories.

The inside of the cabinet holds paints, jewelry supplies, glues, foam, etc.

I think I’m starting to get my life back in order.

I have a few more things to hang on the walls and then I might get to a proper room reveal. Get excited.  But not too excited.  You know me.

How do you store your craft supplies?  Any other great fabric storage suggestions?

  1. I bought one of those t-shirt folder doohickey things (like Sheldon uses on the big bang) in the children's size (because that meant it would fit in my drawer). I love it! All my fabric is folded consistently with no raw edges showing. (I'm really bad at folding.) I should post pictures but, you know, adult life getting in the way! I would totally do the comic board thing if I had the right space for it!

  2. Good thinking about the buffet with the fabric. I had all my fabric stored in a dresser and it got so musty no matter how many times I washed it it never was quite right...

  6. Hooray for craft organization! I just moved two of those clear plastic storage 3 drawer things into our guest bedroom closet, which I'm turning into a craft closet. I'd love to have my own craft room one day though!

  7. Adulthood is really the most pesky thing. I would much rather have my mom drive me around and make me lunch all the time, and paying money for all my clothes. What was so wrong with being 7? I would like to tell 7 year old kenz that. Your craft room is definitely looking organized! I like the clear totes for fabric. I'm still really obsessed with the buttons on the wall. You little genius you...

  11. My craft supplies are out of control. It is scary. To make matters worse, we are using the room with all the supplies in it as storage right now, as well...which means junk just gets thrown in there.

Never seen that spare bedroom before...did you love your romantic bunk beds on vaca so much that you had to buy a set for always? ;)

  12. Looking good Michelle! I know what you mean about that old furniture smell! How on earth do you get rid of it? We bought an old piano this past winter and I cannot stand the way the thing smells. I am always secretly thinking of ways I could damage the thing and convince my husband that my son just needs a brand new one! But I haven't perfected a plan to blow it up without destroying the rest of my living room so for now it has to stay! I am impressed with all your crafting organization! Cheers to you!

  17. THAT is the best way I have ever seen to store fabric! Much better than my method, which is to pile it all in the closet where I can't find anything.

  18. Damn you! Now I'm motivated to get my stuff in order. Why are you doing this to me?

  21. What was so incorrect with being 7? I would like to tell 7 season old kenz that. Your art space is definitely looking organized! I like the obvious bags for material. I'm still really enclosed in the control buttons on the walls. You little professional you...
