Vacation is over. So sad. I bet those of you that follow me on Instagram are glad my beach photos will be replaced with Ike photos.
If you don’t follow me on Instagram (decorandthedog), Nate and I vacationed in Siesta Key, Fl last week. It was a fantastic vacation. Fantastically lazy. We did nothing other than walk on the beach, lay on the beach and swim. The sand was amazing. It’s mainly quartz. It felt like flour and was always cool to the touch. The waters were clear and a pretty turquoise color. We had plans to check out some local museums/parks but we just couldn’t tear ourselves away. Can you blame us?
We didn’t use the DSLR much…because we were so lazy. Nate is still editing the few that we did take. I used my phone a bunch so let the torture of poor quality blogger vacation photos begin.
Our days went something like this.
9:00am: Wake up and eat breakfast in the condo. Watch Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Nate’s choice. I think he was channeling his inner 80 year old self while in Florida.
10:00am: Walk on beach or lay in beach chair and people watch or read. I forgot my sun hat so I bought a ridiculous cowgirl hat. Gotta protect the noggin’ from sun. The beach in front of our condo complex was very quiet. Most of the other people there were elderly. I love the elderly. I fit right in.
1:00pm: Eat lunch in condo. Watch How I Met Your Mother. Nate is obsessed. He can relate any life moment to HIMYM. It’s impressive and annoying all at the same time.
2:30-4:30pm: Sit on beach and nap/people watch/read. One day I read “The Five Love Languages”. It was a fascinating read. I tried to get Nate to discuss his love language. Turns out he doesn’t have one so I decided to discuss HIMYM instead.
4:30-5:00pm: Swim in pool.
5:00-5:30pm: Shower. Get ready for supper.
5:30-7:00pm. Eat a disgustingly amazing supper. I never want to eat French fries again. We had seafood, Five Guys, and a beer battered hot dog with bacon and cheese.
I’m eating only fruit for the next week.
7:00-8:00pm Get ice cream and then stroll the beach at sunset.
8:00-10:00pm- Tv or reading and then sleep.
Repeat times 6 days.
We both feel recharged and ready to tackle life. We’re both big believers in getting away and experiencing life in a new place at least once per year.
Any suggestions for the place for our next vacation? Are you a fan of lazy beach bum vacations or are you the go and do type?
looks like a fabulously relaxing time! and i love your comment about fitting right in with the elderly. ;)
ReplyDeleteNate even decided that the elderly would make me also seem like a great driver. I love the elderly.
DeleteSounds like fun, I leave on Thursday for a 11 day vacation in Florida!
ReplyDeleteI'm already jealous!
DeleteLooks like a great time. I'm a total beach bum and my hubby is too. That's all I need!
ReplyDeleteAre you an SPF 1000 person as well? Reflections off my pasty skin have been known to blind passersby. A Florida vacation sounds perfect right about now.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely. We didn't come back with tans but we didn't burn either. I'm thinking our future selves will be glad we used the sunscreen!
DeleteYay! You're Back! i'm glad you had so much fun- but I am going to appreciate Ike back on instagram. That was just cruel seeing you have so much fun while I was watching snow fall in Michigan. Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteOOOOH! I want to lay on the beach and do nothing...but lay on the beach! LOL Glad you enjoyed it!! xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time (lazy vacations are the best ones )
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful vacation! Glad you're back to posting photos of Ike (although I will miss the sunset photos).
ReplyDeleteDude, I want your vacation life. That sounds fantastic and exactly what you needed after these last couple months!! I'm normally the type who has to DO ALL THE THINGS on vacation, but somehow beach vacations are different. I would just like to plant my butt on the beach and not move. Ever.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's where I live! (Seriously - I live in Sarasota.) Have loved the posts that you've had up for simple crafting while you've been away. Good choices all around.
ReplyDeleteThat last pic is just .... WOW
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys were lazy
Sounds like my kind of vacation. Isn't The Five Love Languages interesting? I tried to get Brad to read it. He refused. I told him his refusal didn't help in filling my love tank. Glad you guys had a good time!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awesome, for like one day. Jesse and I are movers when we're on vacation. We don't like to lay around. We want to explore and do as many things as we can when in a new place. The last longish vacation we went on was our honeymoon to Disney World, we got up every day around 8 and didn't return to our condo until after 10-11. It was awesome. We spent a total of 2 hours at our condo pool and then left to go do things.
ReplyDeleteBut none the less, I still really want to go on a vacation! I'm going stir-crazy.
Love the pics of the beach - I want to go too! We love living in our neighborhood because we are surrounded by the elderly, they make the best neighbors! And the Love Languages - such a good read. I think I figured out that Seth loves (1) a clean house (specifically floors and countertops) and (2 ) a good meal with good beer. I'm not sure that one was in the book!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I loved following along with the pictures. Our lazy beach vacation starts in two weeks!
ReplyDeleteI want to go there. Looks amazing and I'm sort of obsessed with the idea of flour-like sand that is cool to the touch.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I love The Five Love Languages. It's one of my favorites. I'm sure I've already told you that.
Also, I'm glad you are back.
My parents are in Florida right now! I used to go every year until I moved out on my own.
ReplyDeleteI hope to see some of these pics in the Decor and the Dog print shop ;)
So glad you guys enjoyed yourselves and indulged in 5 Guys!!
that. sounds. amazing. My kind of vaca.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a great time away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I should have taken a vacation like that. My vacation was far less relaxing than yours!
ReplyDeleteReading this post just gave me the most ridiculous kind of longing for pre-child vacations, and sleeping it, and eating junk all day. omg. It's an intense longing, not gonna lie. Also, maybe Nate's love language is HIMYM?
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your trip! It sounds perfect! We're currently talking about a family trip to Florida in November. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI did follow you on Instagram and you made me want to lie on a beach as well. I normally don't go for the beach vacay because I'm a little too A type to stay still for more than a couple of hours. Definitely rethinking!
ReplyDeleteVery rapidly this web page will be famous among all blogging and

haha I notice crocheting/quilting didn't make the list? Surely there were some other fellow elderlies doing that on the beach. Glad you had a great time! I would love some time away!
ReplyDeleteYes, we can start seeing Ike again ;) Your vacation seemed fantastic! I'm all for lazy vacations, but for some reason, every time we hit the beach, it rains. The food looked amazing, and really, you don't have to starve yourself with just fruit..you can afford the fatty/delicious food! Now, post some Ike pic's please.
ReplyDeleteI wish my man was more of a sit on the beach type, I like least a day or two, but he's a get up and go-er. For our first vacation together, we're going to Australia. :) We're getting married this summer and then going for 2 weeks next summer and calling it a honeymoon-iversary trip.
ReplyDeleteAustralia sounds awesome. We keep debating it but those plane tickets are so darn expensive!
DeleteHa this is crazy, but we have a home on Siesta Key and live in Iowa. If I had to guess.. did you stay at Jamaica Royale, go to Big Olaf for ice cream, Five Guys in the Publix parking lot and The Salty Dog?? Please let me know if I'm right, hubby and I have a bet. LOL What a small world. I glad you loved it.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct on all accounts! :) We also did Captain Curt's and the Orange Octopus. I hope the bet was a good one! And if you ever need a Siesta Key home babysitter, I'd be happy to help you out. ;)
DeleteHa I knew it! I won. I know every inch of the island. I knew Jamaica from the tiki hut roof, the balcony and condos next door. We may need a babysitter/decorator someday! Glad you had a great vacation.
DeleteI need a beach trip, stat! ....and some french fries from Five Guys! I'm glad you had a great trip.
ReplyDeleteThis whole post made me laugh. You're way too witty for me!! I'm glad you guys had fun. I am a believer in recharging at least once a year too. Although I would prefer 6++ times a year, but I'll take what I can get. Lol
ReplyDeleteI suggest Cape Cod for a future vacation! There's a lot to see if you want, but its also very elderly, slow going at the same time. You guys would love it there. Also Cancun is a pretty inexpensive trip, too and it's also very relaxing. All inclusive resorts = the key to a stress free vacation!
I love the five love languages. I learned a lot from it and try to keep the notes in the back of my mind if I ever catch myself being a dbag to Justin. Lol What's your love language?
Glad you are back!!! I missed Ike. :)
I loved as much as you'll receive carried out right here. The sketch is attractive, your authored material stylish. nonetheless, you command get bought an nervousness over that you wish be delivering the following. unwell unquestionably come further formerly again since exactly the same nearly very often inside case you shield this increase.

Ahhh--love beach vacations! My husband and I went to St. John for our honeymoon. Each morning we woke up, drank tea on the deck and decided which beach to go to. If you're a beach person, you've got to go!! St. John is mostly national park land, so it's peaceful and not commercialized like St. Thomas. And, it's not too far. Can you tell I'm dying to go back?!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my perfect vacation. I'm sooooo jealous! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! I was incredibly jealous the entire time I stalked you on IG. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe just returned from our dream vacation, a barge trip through Provence, and it was beyond wonderful. The chef on the barge was fabulous, meals were incredible, cruising on the rivers and canals so relaxing, medieval villages fascinating to explore, people and staff friendly and helpful....oh, you'd love it.

Beautiful! Looks like you had an awesome time! And I can't help but mention that it looks like Nate saved the best Tshirt for the trip ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, and, no love language? lol! I'm thinking it's the one where you do things for people, like build awesome furniture?! I haven't read the book, but my friend was telling me about it a while ago.
I love lazy vacations! We do the same thing for our anniversary every year. 11 days of sun, swimming, and sitting. I read Five Languages of Love a while back and thought it was really interesting too. It is crazy to think how something I could care less about (like gifts) really mean a lot to some people.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had an amazing time. Sun and relaxation sound like the perfect way to spend some time. That way you don't come home from a vacation, needing a vacation.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great time! I've read The Five Love Languages, too! I totally pin pointed my son's and mom's but apparently my husband doesn't have one either... or so he says, hilarious! Haha.
ReplyDeleteLove Siesta Key! Headed there tomorrow for a awesome week!!
