New Living Room Rug

It’s another issue of “Blogger Show and Tell”.  I bought a new rug for the living room.

New Living Room from RugsUsa

This is rug #3 for the living room. Rug #1 was too small. Rug #2 tried to kill me. Rug #3 appears to be a much better fit. It’s a good size and I can breathe. Minor details in life.

I sold rug #1 and rug #2 on Craigslist which gave me extra dollars to replace the killer rug.  And the Craigslist encounters weren’t too awkward. Well, not horribly awkward for someone with zero people skills like myself.

The new rug is the Santa Ana Faded Antique Ikat from RugsUSA.  This isn’t a sponsored post.  I spent my hard earned Craigslist dollars on this lovely.  The rug shipped fast and was in perfect condition.

It’s definitely has more color than I’m used to but I really like it.  I works well with the vision I have for the living room.  (We plan to add antique white built-ins to replace to the ladder shelves.  We are also planning a new coffee table.  We’ll either repaint one or built one.  We’re being patient on this one.  At least Nate is.)

The colors of the rug work perfectly with our furniture.  It has a nice antiquey yet modern vibe.  The rug is very soft and squishy.  Important rug qualities.

My mom asked why we needed a rug beings we have carpet.  I’m sure some of you are asking the same question.  The answer is because it looks pretty.  There is no functional reason.  Just prettiness.

Two Story Living Room

Show and Tell is over now.  I’m not sure what Ike was doing while we were taking these photos because he isn’t in a one of them.  So very weird.  I think he may have been napping in the office.

This post is very discombobulated.  I’m blaming the drugs my career as a pharmacist.

What do you think about me adding color in my life?  Weird, right?  Any great coffee table recommendations?  How do you feel about rugs on carpet?

  2. I agree that you need a rug to define the seating area- so BOOM! Not just for pretty. Also, I LOVE the splash of color. It makes your furniture look so different from the killer rug.

  3. Love the new rug! Really weird question - did your old rug shed? I've been tempted to purchase the same rug to replace our shedder of a beast that we currently have in the living room.

    1. I didn't notice any shedding from it. It was really pretty. I still miss it. I just like breathing and not living on steroids.

    2. Thanks for letting me know about the shedding! I may have to order one now :) Steroid free is the way to be!

  4. oh I love it! great colors! I didn't know you could layer rugs on rugs until I started reading blogs, but it really does help define spaces.

  6. Those colors are great. I love the pattern. I have been thinking about buying a rug from RUGS USA for awhile now, so thanks for the added confidence.

I am curious of your plans for the windows. Leaving them open, covering? I am having window dilemnas myself. Sorry if I have missed a conversation, I am new to your blog... from YHL.

    1. We plan to leave the windows uncovered. Our backyard is wooded and we don't have close neighbors so privacy isn't a concern. And I love natural light. We do have some far away plans of adding some bigger moldings to the windows and maybe inbetween!

  7. I like it and love the idea about the built-ins. what about putting hardwood floor and just have the rug it looks small there and hardwood would make it bigger just a thought.ang

    1. The carpet stays. The husband and the dog do win on occasion. I fought hard for all hardwood and lost.

  8. Do you guys have any plans for that space above the fireplace/tv?

    1. Part of the built-in plan is to add a beefy mantel, molding around the tv and at the top of the fireplace area!

  10. Nice pop of color. Can't beat a carpet that doesn't kill you either.

  11. Definitely love the pop of color! And I also like the rug on the carpet thing. One day when I get around to redoing our living room I may do the same, because I too can't win the all hardwood floors debate, but I love rugs!

  12. I definitely agree with rugs for color purposes rather than functional! This was a great find! It looks so pretty in your living room and the colors are so fun.

  13. Michelle, you did good! I love the pop of color, and I agree, rugs are more for decorative purpose than function. I so wish I had ordered my rug from rugsusa, I still dont have my rug, and ups has no clue where it's at (because, really, it's sooooo easy to lose an 8 by 10 rug that weights 99lb!)

  14. That rug looks great! And I am a believer of having a rug on carpet for pretty reasons too!

  15. Beautiful! I love the color it adds, and it's the perfect mix of modern and antiquey style. Looks great!

  16. I've been waiting for this post! I LOVE it! The color is perfect for your room. Can't wait to see the room with a new coffee table & built-ins - that will look great.

I love putting rugs on carpet - it keeps the carpet cleaner & it looks pretty. Plus it helps to define spaces.

  18. Your new rug looks great! Love the pattern and color it adds to your living room. I'm just like you about CL, I don't mind taking the photos, listing, lining up appointments, but when the people actually show up I like for my husband to deal with them!

  19. Yay for non-killer rugs! And non-killer Craigslisters! Those are good too ;)

I'm getting off track. Anyway, I love your new rug! I'm a fan of the rug-on-carpet look too since most carpets are a boring bland color. Can't wait to see your future updates! After tax season, of course :)

  20. I love it!!! Your living room is gorgeous!

  21. I am usually not a fan of rugs on carpet, but I think it works in this space. Especially with the color of your furniture and the color of the carpet. The rugs adds some fun color to the space!

  22. Prettiness is totally a reason for a rug, and it looks perfect! Such a bonus that it isn't trying to kill you like it's predecessor. :)

  23. Great choice! Every room needs a pop of color and an element of surprise. Keep up the good work :-)

  24. I love your new rug! And all the color it brings. It's perfect. I hope you don't have any problems with it and you can finally end your rug series. Lol btw- what happened to that really fun Friday series you used to do? I miss it!

  25. I love the colors of the rug! Living in the SW, I am especially partial to the Santa Fe style :)
As for the coffee table, I think the dark wood adds great contrast that would be lost with a white table. But maybe with white bookshelves, it'll look really sleek. Can't wait to see the final product!

  26. Wow Michelle! I'm so impressed that you're branching out and using color. It's perfect for Spring and gives a different look to your room. Great choice of pillow too.

  27. Looks great! The pop of colour is perfect there! Not killing you is a great bonus. I have questioned the rug on a carpet thing before but it really does work perfectly there!

  28. What a nice little rug you got there. It's like a scarf... for your floor. Yay for survival.

  29. I'm all for the pop of color. That one shot of blue wakes up the whole room. Prettiness is a perfectly good reason to make any purchase. If it makes you happy when you see it, it's cash well spent. Plus it grounds the furniture instead of the couch blending in too much with the similarly colored carpet. Good work.

  30. Love the show & tell post! Thanks for sharing. I'm feeling far more motivated to add some pops of color along my floors.

  31. i like rugs on carpet and am thinking of rug on carpeting our bedroom to add some color and extra squishiness. both important.

i love your rug choice too. I really love the colors in your home. good job!!

  32. Ohhhh YES. That is SO the right rug. LOVE the extra color it adds without being too in-your-face. Well done.

  33. I had a vision of you hanging from the ceiling fan to get that birds eye view of the room. But I do like the rug

  35. Layering the rug is the perfect way to make carpet work for you (especially if you lost the carpet/hardwood battle!). I would love to put a rug down on our living room carpet to help us get through until we can afford to do hardwood throughout our whole open-concept downstairs...hmmm...

Also, maybe a round coffee table? We are using a round table to break up all the squares with our sectional. But, you have a lot of space so rectangle/square totally works, too!

  36. I love it and love seeing color in your house!! The overhead shot is my favorite, it's such a cool pattern! We have rugs on top of all of our carpet everywhere. Rugs on top of rugs is the new thing....at least that's what I keep telling myself!

  47. Carpet cleaning is really a very tough job and it requires lots of efforts to perform the job. When you purchase a carpet to enhance the beauty of your home you don’t even think that how will you wash such a heavy material.
