BFFs and Why You Should Blog

BFF has a new meaning.  Blog Friends Forever.

I kill myself with corniness.

All kidding aside, I hung out with two of my favorite blog buddies last week-end (Cindy (The Flipping Couple) and Kim (NewlyWoodwards))  I’m still trying to recover from lack of sleep. Even though we went to bed at 10:30.  We’re party animals. I think it’s my “introverts get energy sapped from hanging out with others” theory. Yes, that.

Here’s the only picture of the three of us.  You know, the one where I already look like I’ve drank a pitcher of sangria and spilled it down myself.  (I had a small issue opening some club soda.  Small.  It definitely did not spray all over my kitchen.  Definitely not.  I should probably have my own Food Network show.)

If you would have asked me three years ago if two strangers from the internet would be two of my favorite people in the world.  I would have laughed at you.  I’ve only hung out with Cindy three times yet she feels like someone I’ve known forever.  I currently spend more time with Kim than I do my husband.  If you think about it though, when you read about people’s lives on a daily basis you almost know more about their current lives than the real life friends you only see once a month.  Kind of strange.

Blog friends are great because they get you.  If you don’t blog, you don’t have a complete understanding of how weird the world of blogland is.  It’s hard to explain but it’s like you become part of this parallel universe.  It’s totally cool to Instagram your dinner.  It’s almost rude not to.

Blog friends know what you should serve them for breakfast. I read Kim’s mind.  She totally didn’t demand baked donuts. I fed Henry paper.

Blog friends will pose for ridiculous Instagram photos without hesitation.  (P.S. She totally bought those.)

Blog friends don’t mind when your dog humps their baby.  True story. I was mortified.  Kim laughed.  Henry laughed.  I booked an obedience lesson.

Moral of this post.  Start blogging.  Seriously.  You will meet so many amazing people and there are a lot of fun opportunities that arise if you work at it. (I have some fun opportunities ahead in the next few months.  Outdoor projects.  Reclaimed barn wood.  Flowers.  Navy paint.  Tile.  I can’t wait!)

I truly believe everyone has a story to tell.  My life is seriously not that exciting but you all keep stopping back.  So I keep writing.  Share yours!

Do you have questions about blogging? Ask them in the comments. I’m an open book.

  1. Awww so fun! Sangria + good friends + in bed by 10:30 = my kind of night! I totally agree that blogging is one of the best ways to make friends. I have met some great friends when I moved to the DC area who love the same things I do, and it's crazy to think that it'll all because I met them on the internet.

  2. OMG I almost spit out my coffee over Ike humping the baby. LOL...I have some stories about this subject too.
I wish I would have more bloggers in my area too that I could hang out with.

Whenever my hubby reads my comments or other blog friend's comments he laughs and says you guys talk so strange. Well you are right nobody gets it unless they blog.
    Loved this post.

  4. LOVED this post. It's all completely true! Blog friends are definitely an amazing part of my life now. I haven't posted a blog post in over two weeks, and I'm barely on social media these days with the work craziness going on (and the wedding venue fiasco) and the only people asking me if everything is okay, and offering help are blog friends and my mother. My "real-life" friends are no where to be found.

  5. I completely agree with the Blog Friends are the best friends thing. I find it weird that if I don't talk to my bloggie besties that I feel lonely even though we've never met in real life. They understand the weird "virtual pressure" that we put on ourselves and they don't get tired of texts saying "BLUE OR YELLOW" with a picture of a random thing you scored at a thrift store. It's not like real world friends where they say, "what's wrong with the way it is." THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WAY IT IS, JUST UNDERSTAND ME.

Blog friends are the best. :)

  8. Mmmm sangria! I seriously love having bloggy friends! It's so weird that you get so close with people you only talk to online. I've met a few blog friends, but I really wish I had some closer to me that I could craft with! I need to work on that!

  9. I just started my blog, and can't wait to make some bloggy friends. Oh, yeah, and my baby loves it when my dog humps her bed - he claps and giggle and carries on. I don't know what we are going to do as he grows up. Let me know how the obedience lessons go.

  10. You're totally right, Michelle! Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about my "blog friends," but they just don't get it!

And I understand about being an introvert! It's exhausting being an introvert with a social life!

  14. While I have yet to meet any blog friends in real life, I'm lucky that my real life BFF IS a blogger! Seriously, who else will understand when I ask her how her analytics were for today?

  15. LOVE this post! When I started, I didn't know anyone would read my blog (especially someone as cool as you) but I've made some awesome friends along the way and that makes me so happy. If only we all lived closer.

  16. Aww I love this! What a fun girls weekend. I'm so jealous! If I only lived a few hours away I would have straight up rudely invited myself to join you party animals. Maybe one day!

  21. I definitely believe in Blog Best Friends. These days, I am closer to my blog best friends than my IRL friends. I feel like blog friends just "get" each other.

  24. Awww, how fun! Glad to know I'm not the only one who's passing out at 10:30 haha

I haven't met any of my blog buddies yet but I hope to in the future! Hopefully my dog doesn't hump their baby. Well, if he does, hopefully they laugh it off like Kim did :)

  27. I only started blogging about a month ago and have been amazed by the generosity and friendliness of the blogging community. I love blogging, and I loooove dogs, so it's a perfect little hobby for me. Going to explore the rest of your site now :)

  28. My favorite thing about blogging is hanging out around Blogville with my new blog friends. It's just so much fun to have met someone who you share common interests with. Love it!!

  29. Loved this post Michelle. I miss blogging so much mostly because of all the people I met. It reminds me of having pen pals in other countries when I was a kid. I think the key to making friends as a blogger is to be yourself like you do. Some people act so perfect on their blog I can't relate and to them. Thank you for keeping it real!

  30. Cute post! I have not met any blog buddies, but your BFFs make me want to!
Poor Henry...paper for dinner and Ike getting friendly, lol.

  31. I am in total sync with you on this post except the part about instagram, but completely the part about the friends you see once a month. If there is a behavioral correction method for humping, let me know. I might do a tutorial on that.

  32. YES! Bloggers are a rare breed. When I was re-doing my header it would have been awesome to have a blog buddy come over to talk shop. Or even to give a "professional opinion" on the ease of site navigation. Or have a glass of vino and talk photo editing. I wish I lived closer to you girls. Sangria fueled craft night (and Instagramming it) is my kind of party.

I've stumbled on a blogger that lives in Connecticut, but didn't seem too thrilled about finding a real life blog buddy *sob* I have come to the realization that I either give off a shoe bomber terrorist vibe or smell funny. Or both.

I have blog questions. Have a seat. No really.

How does one get featured on a big blog?
How does one host a pinterest linky party with major bloggers?
How does one get blog sponsors?
Is there a Whitey's Icecream in the north east?
Is it weird that Rocco only humps inanimate objects?

Thanks for blogging! Your sarcasm is my cup of tea.

  35. Thanks for posting! As someone that has a bad habit of starting and stopping in the blog world, it is nice to know that you can make friends through it. I am trying to get back into the swing of things again and I am really excited about it!

I would totally be down to meet like-minded blogging buddies!

  36. TRUTH. Fun post! Loled at Ike. He needs a blog buddy. A female one.

  37. First of all, we should be BFFs. We can be quirky/awkward together ;-)
OK, so this may be a silly question, but how have you built such successful blog relationships? I never know how to approach people (even online) or how to get a dialog started. I'm hoping to grow my blog, so I need to learn these things!

  38. This post made me LOL more than once.

  39. I'm actually quite mad, because I know I commented on this post, something sappy and filled with virtual hugs. But, I think that Feedly ate it. Again. For goodness sakes.

Suffice it to say that your dog can hump my kid any day. And I heart you both big time. Truly so lucky to have great friends like you in my life. Now get me some donuts.

    No seriously. I'm hungry.

  40. Yes! Introverts totally get drained having to be "on" socially. Here is an awesome article on it: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2003/03/caring-for-your-introvert/302696/ I feel like I've run a marathon sometimes when I'm at a work function and networking is on the agenda.

And I echo a lot of the questions already thrown out.
How do you get invited to do a guest post/invite others to guest post?
How do you connect with sponsors like Home Depot Garden Club?
How long did it take for you to garner the following you have now?
What would you recommend to others to get followers to their blog?

My blog is pretty new (krystalcooks.com), but I'm having a ball even if my following is pretty small still. I hope someday I'll have some BFFs too!

  41. I love hearing about bloggers turned BFFs! I have to admit though, I'm a little jealous! I feel like it's hard to connect with people, let alone someone in my area!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm new to the blogging world - but getting BFF's from it seems like an added perk! I hope I can stick to it and see how that turns out for me!

    Cheers to friendships!
