I’ve been pondering our house a lot lately. I’m itching to start something but Nate is heading into tax season. Tax season means I lose my carpenter for 4 months. But at least I have my dreams, right? I should learn to use power tools. And double check my health insurance deductible for when I eventually injure myself.
Here are my house dreams for the year twenty thirteen. If we complete even one or two of these, I will be pleased.
I like our dining room table but it just doesn’t feel like us anymore. The table scratches easily. The bar height is annoying. I’m over it. I’m now on the hunt for a set of 6 chairs that I can paint. I will then purchase 2 fancy grown-up chairs to go with them. And then Nate will build us a table that seats 8. We’re thinking a white/grey or white/black two-toned look. If you are in the QC and spot a set of 6 chairs for awesome price, send me a message yo.
Our office still needs love. I just can’t get this room right. The main hurdle is that couch. We will be purchasing a sectional in 2013. I also need to work on the curtains situation. And wall stuff. No biggie.
Our basement gets little blog time. For the reason seen above. We are still rocking the too small Simpsons decor. I think I read that Homer is totally in this year. We have been talking about this room a lot. Nate is going to build a little media center. There will be wall moldings. Bright pillows. A rug? And probably lots of black and white photos taken by Mr. Nate. Any other suggestions for this room?
Another rarely seen room is my craft room. I only wish I could tell that it is this clean now but starting 2013 with lies is bad karma. This will probably eventually become a child’s room. But that is a ways away so I decided I am going to make my craft room look pretty. I spend a decent amount of time in here and I think I can do it for little dinero. I have some mental plans already.
Do you have big plans for 2013? What project would you like to see us tackle first?
Good plans! I've love to see you tackle that craft room because I think you're right that a small amount could make a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteso envious that you have a craft room, rather than having to juggle sewing machine/computer/food on a single table in 1 of only 2 rooms in my tiny apartment! Can't wait to see what you do with it, as you say, it won't take much to make a it a little more cheery!
ReplyDeleteIf I had your craft room, that would be my big project! I have so many plans in my head for a room I don't even own yet. This is a great opportunity for you to make it your own space. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That's one huge craft room! I'm jealous! I can't wait to see the transformations in the craft room and the basement! So much potential!
ReplyDeleteMy wife would kill for a finished basement and a craft room... she keeps asking for more storage. Big fan of carpentry projects, obviously, and I'm already looking forward to the media center and table build. Nate's good at building tables.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your basement and craft room!! I wish I had place to store all of my craft stuff. I love the idea of black and white photos in the basement.
ReplyDeleteOOOhhhh! You know I love a good dining room table project ;) It took me a few weeks to find my chairs on CL, but after I sold our old table and chairs I pretty much got them for free. I'm still on the hunt for two parsons chairs for the ends though! I'm super jealous of your huge craft room! I think this year we're going to try to figure out an office/craft room situation for me as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see the things you do with your house this year!
ReplyDeleteOffices are my bane. I've never had one I've been happy with, including currently since it is literally empty.
ReplyDeleteSimpsons never go out of style. Or Family Guy!
My office is high on the tackle in 2013 list since right now it's a disaster zone. Can't wait to see what you do with yours!
ReplyDeleteOur office is my first room makeover of 2013. It's pretty yuck. I submit that make 2013 the year of changing our offices first.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you swapped the couches from the office and the basement? as far as the dining table, I hear ya. Dark finishes scratch easily :( I wanted super dark wood flooring but my husband talked me out of it thankfully. Dark looks fab when it's new, but horrible when it's scratched. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for all these projects!! But really looking forward to the craft room and basement... and the dining table! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with the basement room. And which sectional you are going to get for the office.
ReplyDeleteI just made a whole list of my own of projects that we will be taking on.
The beginning of a new year is awesome, isn't it...
because we rarely see the other parts of your house, I forget how big it is for the two of you- you need to have a baby and fill that place up!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how all of your upcoming projects turn out!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting a bar height table for so long I'm just wondering what you don't like about it? I'd hate to lust for so long and then totally hate it!
Those are such great plans, and you have so many areas to still touch on...I'm jealous!! My hubby is about to start tax season, but he doesn't use power tools...I'm the one who is itching to try. I want to build a bookshelf, but it may end up a MASSIVE failure haha.
ReplyDeleteOoh, a baby! How fun. That could be a project. Nevermind, you wouldn't have anymore time to blog. I think that it would be cool to make the basement room more masculine. There are some great examples out there in internetland. As for your office, It's hard for me to find anything wrong with it when I see those built ins. I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you survive 4 months without the help of a carpenter - and still get stuff done! LOVE the idea of some molding in the basement. I think that'll take up like forty-six notches.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome at eating spaces. Can't wait to see your dining room plans!
ReplyDeleteWow, that craft room is so empty; I can't wait to see what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteI think Homer prints are like the new sunburst mirror .
I can't wait to see what you do - my plans are much less firm - waiting to see how much I'll be around before I get to serious about goal setting.
ReplyDeleteSounds like my plans for our house for this year! Can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteLet 2013 be the year the couch in your office gets the boot :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome projects on the horizon. I'm particularly excited for the dining room table. And the craft room. Go 2013.
ReplyDeleteI have an office that needs some love but I need inspiration. So for completely selfish reasons... do the office first.
