Easy Sew Flannel Infinity Scarf

Who is sick of those “I’m so ready for fall posts”?  Aww, too bad.  You get another one.

I’m normally a summer girl but this summer was just too hot.  I’m ready for cooler weather…until it actually comes and then I’ll be whining that I want warmth…like any good Iowan does.

I recently sewed this fun flannel infinity scarf.  I’m on a sewing roll.

Nothing says fall like flannel.  I think Nate is glad I’ve traded a pair of ridiculously ugly flannel pajama pants for this flannel scarf.

I sometimes wear something other than grey shirts and jeans.  Sometimes.  It would look better with a long sleeved shirt but it 90 degrees when I took this photo. I only sacrifice so much for this little blog of mine.

The scarf cost me $4.00 and 30 minutes of time. I can’t wait to make more!

Anyone with a sewing machine can make this.  Seriously.  Dust that baby off.  You only have to sew sort of straight lines.  You can do this!

You will need some fabric of your choice, some thread, and a sewing machine.  I used a yard of fabric to make this scarf.  It’s a little large.  I think I will like the bulk once it cools down and I’m sipping hot cocoa and pretending to watch Hawkeye football.  Oh, Fall.

Start by cutting two 18” x 40-45” rectangles.  You don’t have to be exact.  I used the length that was provided by the flannel fabric which was about 43”.

Pin the right sides together and sew the long edges.  You will be left with a long tube.

Turn inside out.  Bring the two ends together and pin the inner two layers right sides together.

404

Sew together.  Turn the scarf inside out and pin the back sides right side together.

415

Sew the end together leaving a 4-5 inch gap in the middle-ish.

416

Turn the scarf right side out through the 4-5 inch gap.

417

Hand stitch the opening closed and enjoy your lovely flannel infinity scarf!

Feel free to share it with your favorite friend.

  3. Hi Michelle, glad you guys had a great trip, I loved seeing all of your pictures on instagram, made me want to plan a trip out there. I'm not a big flannel person, but I do love your scarf, and lately, I'm all about them, I especially like how they dress up an old t-shirt or tank top. I will give this a try, much easier to find the fabric you like and make it yourself.

  5. This seems like a magic trick but I'm pretty sure I'm going to give it a go. I really like these infinity scarves (yet not enough to justify going out and buying one since I have a rainbow of pashmina/scarves). I predict my sewing machine and I will have a big fight and break up but I'm willing to risk that.

  14. I have a brilliant idea because I am a genius. Start an Etsy shop for us sad souls who really want a flannel infinity scarf now, (even if they are made out of someone else's old pants) yet don't possess a sewing machine or any skills.

I get scarf, you get dolla bills. Win!

  15. I am with you! I love the warm months, but it's been too dang hot, and I always welcome fall with open arms every year. Until it hits the 40's and I'm miserable lol.

But anway, back to the scarf. I LOVE IT!!! I definitely want to try and make one of these. Scarves are one of my favorite accessories! :)

  20. I want to make an infinity scarf! I have plenty of fabric already on hand so no need for another trip to Joann's...bonus, right? (Rick says yes.)

  21. I LOVE the infinity scarf! I need to make myself one...it doesn't look like it would take too much time.

Yes, I'm soo ready for Fall!!! Fall is my favorite season. I think it's something about the leaves changing colors and the cooler, crisp air that I love:)

  22. You should wear a flannel shirt with your flannel scarf. Just a suggestion. Great tutorial! I've been meaning to make an infinity scarf out of this 70s dress I picked up at Goodwill Outlet for about 3 months now. Perhaps I'll get around to it this weekend.

  23. You're killing me with the sewing projects woman.
My bff made me an infinity scarf last year for my bday. I think she was ahead of the trend (or maybe I'm always behind) but I love that baby.

ps - I think you should think of opening an etsy store to make cute stuff like this for your non-sewing blog friends.

  24. This turned out really well. I think I have some plaid material in the basement. Perhaps I need a scarf. The original plan was a skirt but keys be honest, that's not happening.

  29. LOL - I'm one of those people who looooves summer, so you got me on your first line!

Love the scarf, but as I don't have a sewing machine, couldn't one use bonding tape, and just hand sew the opening at the end?
