Chicago in Black & White

Nate and I set out early the morning we left Chicago.  The morning was gloomy and damp from the rain the night before.  The city was quiet.

The photos Nate took that morning lent themselves to being edited in black and white. Black and white photos always speak to me.  Very moody.  Very city.  Very I want to move to downtown Chicago.  Yesterday.

Nate and I keep day dreaming about a studio downtown as a vacation home.  We talk like it could happen.  You know, after we both get second jobs or win the lotto.  Doable, right?

Guess we’ll keep day dreaming…

I’m not sure why this city has sucked me in.  But it has. Big time. We’re already pondering our next trip!

Anyone else dreaming of a vacation home?  If so, where?  Any black and white photo fans out there or do you prefer the color photos?

  1. I love the city! Last weekend lululemon hosted yoga at Wrigley Field. I am so bummed I missed it. How fun would that be? Downward dog on the infield!

  4. Great photos! I'm a big fan of black and white photos too (though NOT a fan of this city), I especially like them for pet photos. Sometimes b&w just makes a photo into art. Glad you had a good trip.

  5. I felt the same way about London - I wanted to be there forever. If only Joe and I could just pick up our family and move over seas!!

PS - Beautiful photos! You should frame some of these :)

  6. Wow, amazing photos! I love Chicago, too. But my dream vacation home is on the coast. Either just north of Boston or on the Washington (state) peninsula. Someday.

(I should really start buying lottery tickets.....)

  8. Beautiful photos! Nate is incredibly talented! Maybe that could be your ticket to fame and fortune :-) Right now I'm dreaming of a vacation home in Maine since tomorrow is expected to hit 105. I'd like to be somewhere else.

  9. i love these photos!! especially the one of that tall building shrouded in fog. I have been dreaming of a vacation apartment in Manhattan right downtown. Heck, if I could afford it, I would move there permanently in a heartbeat. Only place i can afford is most likely too scary for me to ever leave the house alone...or without carrying a weapon, mace, and perhaps a pocket knife as well.

i think we want to plan a trip to chicago soon! maybe we should all meet up :).

  12. Wow, his pictures are stunning! Maybe he should get a second job as a part time photographer?? The guy who took our family portrait is a doctor in his real job. I've told my husband that the first thing I would purchase if we won the lotto is a big RV, I mean, the real big ones, so we can eventually sell our home and travel the whole country...he is not to wild for the Idea though...so I may go without him ;)

  13. Gorgeous shots! I am going to Chicago this summer on route to the west coast!

PS- thanks for the comment on my blog post about my hot air balloon ride- since blogspot doesn't seem to notify people of responses to their comments on other blogs, thought i'd tell you here: DO IT! especially if you are afraid of heights. I am so scared of heights i get scared on the 3rd step of a ladder, but the experience of riding in a hot air balloon was so magical i never even felt scared. A couple other people I talked to felt the same.

  15. Great pictures! I also love Chicago! Every time I go there I fall in love a little more. I don't think I could ever live there permanently (I guess I'm too small town Iowa!) but I love every visit I have there.

  16. I do love visiting chicago but I am always ready to go home! I guess I like cornfields better than sky scrapers! But your photos are sure pretty!

  17. These pictures are absolutely stunning! I can definitely see why you have fallen in love with the city! If Jesse and I didn't plan on having kids in the next few years we definitely would have found an apartment in downtown Richmond to rent. We love the city!

  20. It's easy to fall in love with Chicago! My husband (then boyfriend) and I moved to Chicago from NJ four years ago after we fell in love with the city on a weekend vacation. We live right downtown in the Printers Row neighborhood (near Yolk!) and adore it. We may be moving back east in the next year and if we do we already know we'll miss this place. Between the great downtown, shopping, the lake and Grant Park, and all the cute neighborhoods, this place has a lot to offer!

PS - that downtown studio dream may be easier than you think... This area took a huge hit during the housing crash. You can get a one bedroom for about $150k in some areas!

  21. Great photos! Cityscapes and buildings look so much better in black and white. Maybe you guys could get a timeshare or something in Chicago. I'm sure they have those. Apartments can't be that bad in some areas. A friend of ours has a crazy apartment looking over Lake Shore Drive, and I know for a fact that he's not rollin' in the dough.

  22. Wow, these photos are amazing!!! I adore black and white photography. It can be moody, romantic, clean, dramatic, and artistic.

If I had the ability to choose a vacation home.... hmmm.... It would have to be in Japan or Scotland.

  23. Those pics are great! The black and white photos definitely give it more of an impact!

  24. I'm a sucker for black & white. Your photography skills are fierce woman! Nate is rubbing off on you. My husband rides 4 wheelers. Not sure if or how that can benefit my blog. Hmmmm

  25. Chicago is so cool. So jazzy cool. I'd love to move there but I feel like I'm not cool enough and it would spit me back out all the way back to Georgia.
