Lazy Laundry

This week-end Nate and I worked a little on the laundry room.  We didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this room because I’m the only one that sees it.  This was actually the 2nd time Nate had been in this room since we moved in 2 1/2 years ago.  Ok, maybe the 3rd time.

The room needed help…

Yes,it mainly just needed cleaned but I also wanted it to be a little prettier.  I had originally planned to paint it.  Maybe even add some stripes.  Or pink.  But in the end, I was lazy.  And cheap.
I wasn’t in the mood to paint a room that wasn’t an ugly color…and did I mention that I’m the only one that sees this room. So, I sewed a closet curtain and faux roman shade.  I also painted some shelving boards.  Cheap and sort of easy.  And much cleaner…

I still need to add some art on the walls but I’m debating as to what I want.  We will also eventually add some crown molding and maybe a small sink.

Our laundry room isn’t like some of the showstoppers that I have seen lately but these small, inexpensive changes did make the room just a little bit cheerier.  And when it comes to laundry…I need all of the cheer I can get!

What are your thoughts on laundry rooms?  Should a dumping ground be a well designed space or does it really matter because no one sees it but you? Does your significant other know where the laundry room is?

  1. Love the Roman shade! Wish I knew how to sew!!!!!
I may need to barter brownies for your sewing, lol.

  2. I love the fabric of the faux roman shade! I have never thought to do a faux roman shade before. I think your room looks nice and clean, which is the most important for a laundry room (in my opinion). The laundry room in our house is super tiny (just a pass through room) and visible from the kitchen so I painted it a medium shade of blue and have crisp lines. I think anything else and it would look too cluttered.

I really like the paint color on your walls - I wouldn't paint either!

  3. love it, michelle! that color is awesome, and the fun colors in the curtain provide awesome contrast to the darker moody color on the wall- love it!

  4. I think its good you didn't paint it, the paint color actually looks great. The shade you chose for the window is absolutely gorgeous! You did a great job. I just made a clothes pin sunburst mirror to add a little extra something to my laundry closet that I did over the weekend. Pinterest has plenty of cheap and fun ideas if you are interested. Great job and your room is now certified marvelous!

  5. I like the color! We're actually thinking of painting our bedroom in this shade of blue :-) Thankfully, my boyfriend not only knows where our washer and dryer are, but he does his laundry all by himself. Which sometimes results in him hogging the clothesline because he's too lazy to carry it all upstairs again and just uses the clothesline as a closet, lol!

  9. It does look a lot cheerier! I like the colors you added. I actually find that the rooms I've tried to organize and decorate stay cleaner a lot longer than the ones that are currently crappy, because I actually care about what the nice ones look like. So...I say a laundry room can be cute, definitely. :)

  10. You should see my laundry room. That place REALY needs help!

I´m planing painting wide stripes in grey!

Yours looks beautiful! Love the new curtains, and the washing table hanging on the wall (BTW, I have one of this too! and has the word "soap" paintin on it")

  11. Nick actually does the majority of the laundry because our laundry room is in our totally creep and bug-filled basement. I'm sure he's counting down the days until we finish the basement and I no longer have that excuse to make him do it. : )

Yours looks great!! I love how much character was added from just a few simple changes.

  13. You have such a large laundry room, love it!

That roman shade, the fabric is so fun and bright. Overall the room looks more lively and cheery now :)

  14. I like the color too! and that roman shade is completely awesome. At least you have a laundry room! We have a laundry "nook" that we have to walk through to get to the garage.

  15. Nice job!! Those additions to the room make it so much brighter and cheerier. I am of the opinion that a laundry room is not a fun place to be so it should look fun and inviting. Having said that, mine is ugly and beige:(

  16. Wow! You have a nice sized laundry room, and I love that window treatment!

  17. I love that color - glad you didn't paint! But the fun colors you added make a huge difference. My laundry room has unpainted sheetrock ceiling and stained linoleum floors, so it would be super jealous right now.

  18. Yeah, so the only reason mine ever walks in to our laundry room is because it's the pass thru to our garage! )c: I absolutely *LOVE* what you did! It makes such a big difference...the fabric is so fantastic! All the color is so great! It makes me wish ours was a little bigger than a coat closet! ha! (c:

  21. Holy moly! Look at you getting your sewing on! Love the colors of the room. The flowers and stripes are perfect with the wall color. If you can't get a little funky and bold in your laundry room, where can you? Someday I might hit you up for a tutorial on the roman shade...

  22. Love the little changes you made. The curtain to the closet and the roman shade look great. I like that you used a stripe and a pattern. I was curious about what the decal says on the wall.

  23. LOVE your updates! The pops of color are absolutely amazing! It's so cute... I could even see adding a little reading corner below those shelves... it would be an escape since no one else seems to go in there! ;)

As for laundry room decor... I can't wait to make ours look "prettier"... we've got one of those small, pass-through to the garage, off-the-kitchen type of laundry rooms, that leaves MUCH to be desired... BUT, hopefully I'll get a chance to whip that into shape soon. I'm probably going to wait until I can get some awesome front loaders though. :)

  24. So funny! My mom and I were just discussing whether I should even spend the time to paint the laundry room or focus my energy elsewhere. Guess I'll be painting over those sample paint patches on the wall :)

And yes, the hubbs knows where it is.

    I think?

  25. The laundry room looks PHENOMENAL! I am so impressed. Love the print on the window treatment and the paint colour on the walls. Great job. Found you through a Bowl Full of Lemons.

  26. I love the dark walls with the striped fabric and your floral roman shade. Your laundry room is about 3 million times nicer than mine and now it is inspiration! Ours functions as entry, paint and project dump stop, cleaning storage, and laundry. What a disaster. I need to come back and look at this over and over to get motivated!

  31. That is a huge laundry room! I love the color, and I love the fabric accents. I think every space in a home should be beautiful, because I've found that the spaces I don't like to look at, I have a harder time keeping clean because 'it doesn't matter anyhow'. Kudos for an organized laundry room, it looks amazing!

  32. Wow, you've got a lot of room in there. Doesn't it feel great to just have a room clean and organized, even if it's not totally where you want it to be yet? Your colors are beautiful, love the bright fabrics.

  33. I am so in love with your home! *Wouldn't that sound so creepy in a real-world situation...someone just running up to you and gushing that statement! Gotta love the internet! lol* I love everything from the colors to the design elements that you've chosen throughout-it's very similar to what I would do if I were given the chance! There's only one thing that I would change in this room if I lived there, and just for my own weird logic...I fold & hang all my laundry in the laundry room so I'm forced to do it immediately. I'd have to squeeze in a sorting table and a bar to hang clothes from somewhere in there. LOL One of these days, I would love for my husband and I to customize a house the way we want it! Your blog has been most inspiring!
