It Mooves Me

I have a problem.  I get an idea in my head and I obsess over it.  It usually involves home decor or clothing.  I find something that I just have to have and it consumes my thoughts.  I also have this pesky thing called “a budget”.  Sometimes the two of these “issues” butt heads.

My latest obsession….cow paintings.  I really want a large cow painting to hang in our mudroom. (Yeah, the mudroom that we started working on back in May.)  Cows are so cute.  And paintings of them are expensive…

I’ve had a few suggestions to just blow up a picture but I want a quirky cow painting. Final story. Unfortunately quirky cows aren’t cheap.  Why do I do this to myself?

Luckily my brother is pretty artistic.  I sent him a link to the last photo and asked if he could paint me one like it.  He texted me this sketch that he drew in 5 minutes along with this message….”possibly i have never painted but shouldn't be too hard ......ppl have been doing it for thousands of yrs. :)- “.

I’m headed home in a month and I’m going to set him down with a canvas, some paint, and beer and not let him leave until I have me a pretty little cow.  I’m an amazing big sister.

Nate totally doesn’t understand this cow obsession but he is happy that I may have found an inexpensive solution to my cow painting conundrum.

Do you currently have any quirky obsessions?  What do you do when your wants and budget collide?  Who’s with me on the cows?  Or are they a little too midwest-quirky for you?

  1. Hi Michelle!
I love cows too! when we go to a farm, I always take pictures of them! they look so pacefull... (you know, I was a vegetarian several years because mades me sad ate cows)

I don´t have one obsession, I want to have all! haha, but I really like old advertising signs. They are too expensives, so I buy reproductions, or I only dream about them :)

    Love the cows pictures!!!

    Hugs!

  4. How cool that you'll have some artwork made by one of your family members!

I keep thinking that we need a squirrel somewhere in our house. Not a real one, a la National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (although the cats would love that...), but more like the metal or ceramic variety.

  5. I normally wouldn't be interested in cows - but the paintings you collected are pretty awesome. I can totally get why you are obsessed.

  6. I'm definitely with you on the cows! It feels very Midwestern, and lets just embrace that. The second painting is my personal favorite--I never thought a cow could be so adorable. I'm excited to see what your brother comes up with!

  8. Love those guys, especially the last little buddy with his friendly face. I feel like cows would be awesome pets, if you could just shrink them down a TAD.

  9. Michelle-
I have always liked cows too! When I went to Switzerland I took a few photos of cows, and I can confirm they all wear cowbells.

Anyway, I think cows are part of a new trend. Have you checked ikea? They have a new really cute and affordable print of a cow.

  10. I'm not obsessed with cows like some are, but I do like the ones you chose for your post and I like the idea of having one hanging in your mudroom. It seems like a good place for a cow.

  11. OMG! How cute are ALL of these paintings! I am particularly in love with the first one... but it might be beacause of the abundance of blue! :)

Congrats on having an artistic brother to recreate the look for you! Art can just be so gosh darn expensive.

  12. Awesome! I can't wait to see how the cow turns out - bet the addition of the beer to the painting equation will add just the right amount of "quirk." =)

  13. I love cows and have a really quirky canvas in my kitchen that was a bargain at only £18! I even have a moocoo clock (yes a cow that moo's instead of a cookcoo) and everyone thinks I'm crazy for having them in my home. But I love them and it's things like this that make your home unique.
