Savannah- Part Uno

Since you all humored me on my Tybee Island post, I am going to break up our Savannah trip into 2 posts (we spent 2 half days in Savannah).

Our first trip to Savannah included stops at the Moon River Brewing Company and River Street.

First stop, Moon River Brewing Company.

Nate and my brother are obsessed with beer.  They go to Hy-Vee (because we are classy Midwesterners) and they stare at the beer selection for what seems like hours.  So annoying.

Needless to say, I was less than excited about this stop. BUT, the food there was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!  Their garlic fries are fan-freaking-tastic.  I wish I had a picture (what were you doing Mom??).  I ordered a fish sandwich…this is what I received…

Only the World’s largest fish sandwich.  I ate almost the whole thing…it was THAT good.

Summary of Moon River Brewing Company: Food= awesome.  Beer (according to the experts) = Poor selection (only 4 beers on tap) and just “eh” on taste.

After consuming the largest fish sandwich known to man, it was time to burn off some of that greasy goodness.  We headed down to River Street for a stroll.

River Street is along the Savannah River (someone was slacking on road names that day).  Century old buildings, which were once cotton warehouses, have been converted to antique shops, distinctive boutiques, galleries, brew pubs, restaurants, and hotels.  It’s quite beautiful!

I’ll let the pictures do the talking now (thank goodness, right?)…

Our first trip to Savannah was a good one!  I loved how such a historic town was so full of life.  There were people of all ages.  Live music.  Definitely recommend River Street as a stop in Savannah!

I’ll share with you our trip to the historic district next week.

Tell me about your favorite vacation destination. I like to add to my “must-travel-to” list!  (Did I mention that blog comments get me through my work day?)

  1. I love Savannah! Our friends used to have a house on Skidaway (sp?) island and we had the best time there! I should pull out and post my pictures too. I ate in Paula Deen's restaurant and she was there so I got my picture taken with her and she signed my book! (Such a groupie). Your pictures are beautiful!

  5. Savannah is gorgeous! We've wanted to go for a long time but I'm thinking now we need to mae it a priority :)

Ever heard of White Lake, NC? It about an hour away from Wilmington, my family has gone there for years. It's a white sand, spring fed lake. You can see straight to your feet! It's a great place to relax if you don't like doing much on vacation but eating and sunbathing, seeing as how the locals all seem to be stuck in the 1970's and the decor of the whole lake seems to act accordingly :)

  7. Oh, I miss Hy-Vee! "Where there's a helpful smile, in every aisle!" In Colorado we can't buy alcohol in grocery stores - boo! Which usually means two trips for anything. Grocery store for the snacks, the liquor store for the beer.

Thanks for sharing your trip to Savannah - looks like a place I'd like to visit!

  9. Wow, it looks like a perfect vacation spot!!

First of all, I love traveling so it's not hard to make my "favorites" list, but some of my VERY favorite destinations are: Seattle, Boston and Arches National Park. Well, and Italy, does that count?? : )

  14. Thanks for the great pics. Can't wait to see the historical section of Savannah. I would recommend a trip to Seattle if you've never been. You can check out the waterfront, the Space Needle, the Underground Tour, and more. It's easy to walk around and beautiful when the sun's out.

  16. If I could afford to live there, one of the stately homes around one of the squares in downtown Savannah would be the place for me! Great pics!

    Chuck
who also recently built his home and we are digging out slowly from the process.

  17. I LOLd at your beer comment. We were dragged to many a brewery on family vacations, most recently being the Miller brewery in Milwaukee. My summary of breweries: they smell. And beer tastes bad.

    Savannah looks absolutely gorgeous! :)

  18. I once attempted to maneuver those stairs in 3-inch stilettos. Huge mistake! Savannah is a beautiful town and a great place for vacation. If you are looking for a place to escape the snows of Iowa, Naples, FL is fabulous in the winter.

  19. Oh Savannah....i've always wanted to go. Must put it on the list now....such beautiful scenery!! And the fish sandwich...are you sure it wasn't a whale? ;-) One of our MOSTEST FAVORITEST places to go is Fish Creek, in Door County, WI. We stay in a cottage (at Thorp House Inn) for a week and just wander up and down the peninsula. Beautiful and relaxing.
