Valspar’s Gravity

Gravity is my friend! :)

Most decorating blogs that I read tape about 50,000 color samples to the wall to decide which color is best for their room.

I go to Lowe’s and pick out the prettiest sample.  I walk away for a few minutes and then come back and pick out another pretty one.  It’s usually the same color.  I take that color sample to the paint counter, buy a gallon, and head home to paint.  It’s a science.

Say good-bye to Macademia and hello to Gravity…..

I tape everything….because I am the world’s messiest painter.  I surprisingly didn’t make a mess.  Go me!  AND….I painted the entire room all by my lonesome.  This was huge for me.

Luckily, Nate and I were on to this whole “decorating world going grey” thing in a lot of rooms in our house.  I don’t know WHAT we were thinking when we painted this guest bedroom beige when the rest of the basement is grey.  I think we were thinking that we just want to be done painting and we have some of this macademia color left.

It was later in the day when I took this picture but the bedroom grey now matches nicely with the darker hall grey.

(See more finished photos here)

And then I looked at the guest bathroom next door…..

More Macademia…….Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Who wants to help me paint???

How do you pick out your paint colors?  Are you a sample taper or do you just wing it?

  1. i always get sick of painting too, and then i think of something else i want to paint and get excited...and the cycle starts all over!
I am definitely not a sample taper. I generally google for a bunch of ideas, decide on a color (not shade) and then go into Lowe's or HD and just pick the one i like best! haha...nothing too scientific!

  2. Ooo... I like this color. I think I may try this for my upstairs bath. I was looking for a pale grey. Is it pretty pale in person?

I usually just commit to a color, too. Sometimes I don't, if it's a room that I think is really important or something. But, mostly, I just pick one and commit. With that said, I realized that the grey I 'committed' on in our extra bedroom is horrible. So I 'recommitted' with a new color and will repaint.

  3. I love your choice, it looks beautiful! The only reason I put up 150 paint chips is because our south facing light turns everything a different color in the afternoon (I wouldn't give up the awesome light for anything though!) It's also the paint color in over 50% of the house. It's maddening to choose the absolute perfect gray swatch, commit and buy 5 gallons of premium paint at $70 a gallon to cover over the brightest yellow and red EVER, paint for a week and then discover it looks baby blue. But thankfully pure white trim is solving our issues with our wall color. It actually looks like I painted the walls a new color!

p.s. I stared at the photo the other day trying to figure out what the heck the gray thing in the foreground was. Mattress topper, mystery solved :)

  4. Lyndsay- Yesterday I swore I would never paint again....and then I look at that ugly guest bathrom. :P

Kim- It is pretty pale. It does tend towards the bluish-grey side in darker light but I kind of like that!

Our Little Beehive- Ha! I guess that would be confusing...it is extra foam for the not-so-comfy cheap bed that we purchased! Makes a worl of difference!

  7. I'm using Gravity in our guest bedroom as well, and we got it at lowes, but it looks light blue to us. In your pictures it does not. I'm wondering if Lowes messed up...hrm
